Classic Who - Where Should I Start?

In preparation for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special at the end of November, I'd like to partake in some Classic Who. There's entirely too much for me to go through it all, and there's a good chunk of episodes missing anyway, so I'm looking for recommendations on a sampler pack ( Read more... )

Just as a sampler (and I don't know which ones they used on the Classic Specials, so forgive me if I repeat some.) But my recommendations would be:

The Unearthly Child - (just the first episode, which introduces the idea of the show. I wouldn't bother with the last three episodes of that story with the cavemen, it's basically a whole different story. Just stick with the first episode for now. Save time.)

The Aztecs - an excellent pure historical.

The Seeds of Death - An excellent futuristic base-under-siege story typical of the Second Doctor. (Which also shows the Ice Warriors.)

Spearhead from Space - Which introduces the UNIT years, and the Third Doctor. As well as introducing the Autons for the first time.

Inferno - As an excellent "alternate universe" story, where everyone has an evil alternate incarnation.

Terror of the Autons - Which introduces both Jo Grant and the Master. (As well as being the second story with the Autons, and includes deadly daffodils.)

Time Warrior - Which introduces Sarah Jane Smith and the Sontarans ( ... )

So a slight wording error in my post - I watched the recap portion of the specials, but not the actual episodes that followed. I wasn't ready to watch the episodes as they aired since I was still in the middle of watching Who and then I was watching Torchwood. I'm trying to tackle one TV project at a time ( ... )

The anniversary specials are good. I think the Three Doctors is the best of the bunch ( ... )

True. Definitely best to know who the Doctors are individually first. Hoping to get my first DVD Tuesday, but not sure when I'll have a chance to watch. A little behind on tv at the moment :p

Popped over randomly from a fic comment (on one of mihnn's I think it was)... err maybe that makes me sound more stalkerish? I'm waiting for a file to save, in my defense, and like classic Who watching posts.

Remembrance of the Daleks--I watched this last year. I want to say Netflix had it available at this time in a way that was logical. At the moment, it's apparently hidden in 'classic doctor who' under season 39 (which makes no sense), but at least the description looks right.

No worries. Always nice to meet other Doctor Who fans :) Feel free to stick around and browse. I'm not much of a poster, but have been doing it fairly regularly since starting with Who in February. I have to have somewhere to share my love of the fandom :)
