River, Eleven and the Season 7 Finale

Overall I liked In the Name of the Doctor and I'm definitely looking forward to the Fiftieth Anniversary special in November, even though that seems incredibly far away at this point. I have so many thoughts on this, some in general, but most about River...

Yes, such a beautiful ending, even as sad as it was. It's so rare to get any actual emotions out of the Doctor except cleverness and anger, but this episode had huge amounts of it, including his obvious love for River.

Different and Bizarre - LOL! I guess I could see that, starting with different episodes than I did, but I find it amusing. The first time I saw the Doctor and River (Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone) I was drawn in by the awesomeness of River and the chemistry between them. I started watching Doctor Who with Eleventh Hour (and have since gone back and watched all of new Who) and had only seen the Doctor as this type of asexual, fatherly creature, so to see him with someone and be flirting, it was such a novel thing. He and River were obviously so well matched (she could fly the Tardis, and sassed him, and could keep up with him mentally), I started shipping them very quickly. But I have to say that from the time I started watching the show, I never thought of the Doctor as young, although Eleven certainly *looks* young. He carries the weight of the universe on his shoulders, conveyed mostly through his eyes, so usually I think of River as being with someone so old rather than the other way around.
