[Hakuba's b-day party]
Aoko’s house was bustling with activity. Most of the guests were already there, helping with the decorations, drinking, or talking. The house was decorated with balloons and colored streamers; Aoko cooked a lot of food (Maraich helped her with that), and Hakuba’s birthday cake was designed like the Big Ben clock.
It had taken a bit - okay, a lot of persuasion, and some pouty faces - to convince Kaito to help her with the party, but he was there too. Aoko smiled and went to talk to him.

He looked at his clock. He was in time, like always. He had no idea why Aoko needed him, but he couldn't say no to the storm that was Nakamori-san when she had something in mind.
When Hakuba rang the bell the lights in the house suddenly turned off, a commotion was heard along with some curses, and then the door was opened a bit. He looked at it suspiciously. Maybe something happened to Aoko. Hakuba opened the door in a hurry and broke into the house, looking for some possible danger in the dark. The lights went on, and Hakuba found himself in the middle of a foyer full of people chorusing HAPPY BIRTHDAY to him. Now, now…that was unexpected.

Hakuba was a bit pale, in Aoko’s opinion, and she never expected the total lack of reaction from the young detective. He didn’t say anything for about 30 seconds, then looked up at the balloons, raised an eyebrow and laughed.
