I was reading an article that mentioned (very briefly) that lyrics should not be considered poetry. What about poetry that turns into lyrics. More often than not, my poetry turns into a melody in my head. If I manage to get my career off the ground, my poetry would turn into my lyrics for music.
True, lyrics should not be considered poetry just because they rhyme, but well written lyrics that form a poem in their own right should be considered poetry. Even the word "lyrics" comes from the idea of poetry and the flowing writing of poets.
