So I usually don't make political posts, but as someone who is into the whole "gay rights" thing, I felt the need to say something about this extremely blatant example of heterosexism.

It's cute little commercial, yeah? Well, it's been removed from your TV screens, because some rather intolerant political pundits and conservatives (whether they are from the US or Great Britain, I don't know) felt as though it was, "offensive" and "unsuitable to be seen by children". Also, it made them talk to their kids about same-sex relationships. My G-d! Parents...Having to...explain things to their children...the HORROR!
The point is that the removal of this commercial by the Heinz Company is pandering to a small, but vocal, population of the community and that, as long as it involves sexuality, discrimination is a-okay. I'm sorry, but if this were a black couple do you think Heinz would have removed it (today being 2008)? No, they wouldn't have. The fact that no one recognizes that discrimination, regardless of its subject, is still discrimination really pisses me off.
Anyway, we can do something.
Click Here and let Heinz UK know that there is another portion of the population that salutes them for being so "progressive" in their tolerance and willingness to show that traditional family values (and situations) can co-exist with the Homosexual lifestyle and familial unit. Then, go to
Hienz USA and let them know that you liked the commercial and that as opposed to being offended by making a gay couple appear --g-d forbid-- typical, you are actually pleased with it, would like to see it aired in the US, and that it actually made you buy some Heinz mayo even though Hellmann's/Best Foods is far superior.
So yeah, it's time to take a step forward, people. I mean what's so wrong with showing a man making a sandwich for his kids and husband on TV?
