The day started off ok.
My friend and I climbed Mt Richardson (1,048m). We had the perfect Autumn day for it - still and warm enough to make it pleasant. The climb up was an absolute slog at times (for me at least! My friend is incredibly fit and barely broke a sweat) but somehow we made it to the summit in 30 minutes less than the marked time. We checked out the trig station on top and then found a nice spot in the tussock for lunch. We ate and chatted for a while and then kind of just zoned out in the sun, enjoying the solitude and view. It was so nice to just laze in the sun for an hour or two enjoying the quiet and thinking about everything. And the view! It was a little hazy but we could see across the Canterbury Plains to the edge of the Pacific Ocean - Awesome! Coming down just as bad for me. My legs ache and my feet are blistered but it was worth it.
Then I got home and found out that my Dads Uncle died suddenly yesterday. I guess we can be thankful that the whole family got together a couple of weeks ago for our engagement and my cousins wedding. Death still sucks though. :(
Photos from the trip. LJ cut doesn't seem to want to work...
Lunch at the top - that distant smudge is the ocean.
