My surgery

Went okay. They had to put me on Nitrous Oxide and spray numbing stuff on me to get the IV in, but managed to do it alright. (Last time I attempted this they tried valium... didn't work AT ALL. The surgeon said that I was probably the only person in the world who could out-stress valium.)

Going under is the most bizarre thing ever. I remember being on NO and the assistant surgeon was talking to me about religion, and school, and just weird stuff like that. Then Dr. Hughes came back in and said, "Ok, Kari, here's the good stuff." And she twisted the IV. That's the last thing I remember until I woke up when they were putting the stitches in.

When I woke up I was shaking and crying, and I didn't really know why. They said it was a side-effect of the anesthesia, but it made the pain worse because I was so disoriented and felt so gross. Mom tried to get me to eat a milkshake on the way home, but it was gross because I was basically swallowing my blood along with it. So I took the Vicadin and Ibuprofen on an empty stomach, which made me throw up later on. GAH.

I did manage to eat later, which made the second dose of Vicadin a lot more pleasant, but even so.

It also took me forever to stop bleeding. Actually, I think I still am bleeding a little bit on the right side. So.... I'm really glad I only have to do this once in my life. It's the most horrible thing I've ever had done to me.

I'm really swollen, which is kind of humorous. I have bruises along my jaw though.

Ugh, sorry to gross all of you out with this jazz, but hey-- I lived through it, I'm relatively healthy and I never have to do it again!

Yay!
