Pros and cons of learning to use survival gear:
Pros:
0F after windchill (-17.8C) is the perfect time to test whether I can keep myself warm in a
hammock with a
closed cell thermal pad.
Cons:
0F after windchill (-17.8C)
I am a delicate effin flower, after all.
Well, a year ago I was practicing half-heartedly for the zombie apocalypse, because I don't really take zombies seriously. Neither, it turns out, do most of the people practicing that because their philosophy is really that if one is ready for the fictional zombie apocalypse, one is ready for any real life apocali. Apocalyptica? whatever
Then, I took my CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training and found out about all the reality-based emergencies that could happen oh...tomorrow? Like, the apartment burning down. Or another Snowmaggedon complete with power outage. So practicing with the tent/sleeping bag or hammock/tarp set up becomes a matter of getting emergency shelter up in a reasonable amount of time. While providing one's own emergency shelter is kind of extreme given that FEMA generally comes up with something eventually, it's a step I'm willing to take.
I like to say I'm more of a (taps watch) where's FEMA? prepper than Doomsday Prepper.
I may be stuck living in Georgia for some time thanks to the cost of living and relative sophistication of Atlanta (relative to the rest of the South, I mean.) The 'rents are in California, which is expensive even up in their little foothills hideaway.
No, I didn't actually turn yesterday's shirt right side out, but I did make very very sure today's shirt is on properly. :D
