When is Jenna "Clara" Coleman's contract up? Okay, two questions. And whom do we pay not to renew it ( Read more... )

I was thinking after I posted that, and decided it was a little harsh on the actress. Coleman is doing the best with what she's been given, too, which is a character that really and fr realz should have been named Mary Sue. Clara's perfection and absolute necessity as a companion makes River Song look like a regular, hardworking gal we can all identify with. If Jenna Louise Coleman were the character, she'd pass scenery chewing and dive right into what my mother calls "half-bulimia:" binging with no purging (or, the reason she and I both weigh too much.)

Amy Pond, like Donna, got an early redhead break from me. I can see why Donna annoyed people from the get go and why "the girl who waited" became annoying, but they both had soft spots in my heart and more support from the writers. Clara Oswald leaves them both in the shade, as Moffat made sure we knew the Doctor(s) literally could not live without her.

I'd go ahead and catch up. Rory is worth it, and when she's not saving all the Doctors, Clara is a virtual non-entity. Either that, or people like us who've read as much fanfiction as we have under our belts are quite adroit at ignoring Ms. Mary Sue. Could go either way.

John Hurt in the anniversary special is definitely worth making Eleven make sense.

I never thought I'd miss RTD, but Moffat's era is too focused on creating mysterious arcs that just don't interest me. RTD had a sense of the crazy weirdness of the original series, Moffat takes himself and the show way too serious.

I did not like Donna at all in her first outing, but they developed her into one of my favorite companions. When Eleven was introduced, I kept thinking Donna would knock him back down to earth, proverbially and/or literally. He was too hyper and childish for my tastes, and Donna would have had none of that. I've heard the actress would like to appear again, but considering how they left her character and Moffat's apparent allergy to characters pre-his era, I'm doubting it will happen. But it would be cool to see Capaldi and Tate snarking at each other. They could even do a wink-nudge to Donna saving Capaldi's character from the destruction of Pompeii.

I've got discs to do a catch up, but pain meds are making it difficult to stay awake long enough for a marathon. I've cut back on them, so hopefully my brain will be working at full speed again instead of suddenly wanting to go into stand-by mode.

I think napping from pain meds is better than the alternative, but I'm a bit of a wuss.

The thing is my pain isn't really from the surgery, but from something that happened after, so I don't think the meds are the right thing. Basically using a nuke when I need a firecracker.

I'm about to detail the not so gruesome details over in my LJ. More to help my memory later than anything.

I told you the dancing boys were there for your entertainment, not to jump up and join in.

That wasn't covered by doctor's orders.
