Life is unpredictable. My dog Barney passed away tonight...writing is one of the few things I have that allows me to collectively organize and express all my thoughts and feelings, so I turn to my livejournal (simply because typing is easier than actually writing at this point in time). Barney was and always will be one of a kind. He came into our lives when my Step-Dad brought home a "Family Needed" poster that was pinned up at work. After going to meet our future family member we knew that we needed a Barney. Barney is a gentle spirit, only out to see the happiness in others. He is the only dog that my dog Jake did not freak out about when they first met; they were meant to be together. Fate brought us all together and one cannot be sad about what life brings us, it would not be what Barney wanted. After getting over the initial shock I realized this myself. Barney was as happy as they come; he was loved and loved everyone he met in return. Barney was not just a good dog, but a good example of how more of us should act as people. We should love one another and live life to its fullest because one never knows when the end will come. Living in fear of death is not living at all and Barney was loving life with every breath he took, even his last. Some would scoff at the idea of life lessons forming in the wake of a dog's death, but Barney was not just a dog. He was the epitome of love.
Barney, I love you. You will always be with me.
Thank you for the happiness you brought with you when you entered my family.
RIP Barney 6/18/2006
You were more than just a dog.
