[Harley has been making herself comfortable since arriving at Vertiline, and that has included the complete redecoration of her own artichoke pod. [So Lily's going to grab some food from the Temple (you know, nothing out of the ordinary), when she passes Harley. Lily's not particularly in the mood for socializing, so she just walks by - that is, until she sees all that relocated fauna around Harley's pod. Lily is suddenly very, very interested.]

Hey, how'd you get flowers around your pod?

[Lily doesn't have any flowers.]

[Harley pauses in the act of sweeping her bottom step, a cloud of dirt and dust piled neatly before she toes up her welcome mat and brushes it beneath. Her lips curl in a bright smile and she hops down that final step to look at the flowers she has planted before turning those baby blues to Lily.]

Ya like 'em? I just kinda thought that the place needed some brightnin' up, ya know?

[She leans against the broom handle and points over toward the edge of the forest.]

Most'a 'em are from in there .. Ya can find all kinds'a pretty flowers if ya look.

[Sure, any number are probably poisioness, but Harley doesn't think of these things with her toxin immunity.]

Well, yeah, but... [Lily gestures with her hands. This does not go well.] ... How did you get them from there to here? Because all the flowers I picked just... died. Kind of.

[Is plant-transference some kind of normal people thing? God, normal people are weird.]

[Harley eyes the girl for a moment, listening as she explains and then nods.]

Ahhh .. dyin' on ya, huh? Well, I loved with a broad for a while that was kinda good with plants, ya know? She taught me a thing or two about takin' care'a 'em, even though she preferred to do it on her own.

[The blonde gives a half-shrug, not seeming at all offended by this.] I tended ta kill more of 'em than save .. Seems ta be goin' alright so far, though!

[Cue Harley eyein' ya, Lily.] Did ya pick 'em or did ya dig 'em up? Cause if ya picked 'em, they ain't gonna last much longer than the time ta get 'em ta yer artichoke!

Oh. I just picked them.

[Well, now she feels moronic. All normal people obviously know how to plant flowers. Lily: 4. Normal people: 1052.]

How do I dig flowers?

[Well, Lily, this is your lucky day 'cause Harley wasn't the type of girl to point out a short coming like that! :D She takes this pronouncement in stride, shrugging with that never fading grin still in place.]

Eh, ya made a mistake.. no biggie! I'm sure some of these folks don't even have plants where they're from, ya know? So ya ain't good with flowers..only way ta fix that is ta try again with the gentle guidance of yours truly!

[Why yes, Lily! Harley would love to show you the ropes! She won't be heavy on the tact, though so prepare your fragile self for it. Her hand moves to her hip and she eyes the trim girl speculatively.]

Ya never dug up plants before, huh? I got a few more ta plant in the back if ya wanna learn?

[STARS IN EYES. Here Lily is, being a gigantic derp about nature - and in swoops Harley, a plant expert! Oh, damn! Normal people are so nice. Wayyy nicer than the scientists and the old models (well, anything's better than the old models). Maybe the outside world isn't so scary after all?]

Yeah! Yeah, definitely! [Eee!] I'm Lily, by the way!

[The kid seems to brighten at the suggestion of getting some hands' on work in and Harley seems perfectly amiable to the idea. A precious child to teach and mold as much as she could? Yeah, Harley is soooooooooooo okay with this! 8D]

[And doesn't she seem like the nicest, most unassuming helpful human in the world, Lily? Clearly, you have just met the wrong people thus far! She gestures toward the back of the pod with a jerk of her chin, setting the broom aside as she goes.]

[This is SO GREAT. Harley is truly a godsend. Lily follows Harley, but not too close. She doesn't want to seem too eager. She doesn't want to seem too, um, not normal. Never mind that she's glaringly not normal, with the collar and all. But hey, that's alright. Nobody's asked about it yet.]

Um. Thanks for this. Really. Because I really want to know everything about flowers. And this is the first step. I guess. So, thanks.

[Harley beams at the bright eyed and bushy tailed Lily, leading her around the artichoke to where several plants remain un-planted. She doesn't seem at all put out by Lily's eagerness, taking it in stride as the hyperactive clown that she is. Who is Harley to judge normal from not? I mean, really?? XD She's seen fancier collars on the kids running around Gotham, so that certainly isn't a glaring factor of 'weird' to her.]

Flowers are pretty great, kiddo! I used ta have a bit'a a black thumb, ya know? Killin' plants left an' right .. buuuuut, then I met Red an' she snapped me inta gear an' now I like 'em alright. I don't kill 'em instantly or nothin' anyway .. that's somethin'!! 8D

[She moves to take position in front of the flowers and gestures for Lily to join her.]

Now, the first step, when yer diggin' 'em up from the woods, is ta keep their roots in tact. Like this, see? [She shows her the root infested bundle of dirt connected to the bottom of the orange blossom's stem.] If ya pull 'em free of these things, then it's goin' ta

[Lily has been covered head-to-toe in the blood of giant abominations of science. Getting dirty is the least of her concern.

She watches closely, enthralled. The mental notes she's taking right now are staggering. Lily had no idea plants were so complex! She thought they were just pretty! Well, that was fucking stupid of her. Of course they're complex. Flowers are alive, after all. Kind of. She thinks. If it can die, it must be alive. So there.]

[That's all she can say. Wait a bit, maybe she'll be able to form sentences.]

I didn't know plants were so difficult. Why do you have to cover the things? [...] The roots, I mean.

I'm so sorry for the delay!! My wife started school and my job workload was ridiculous this week!!

[Yeah, Harley has been covered in MUCH worse than dirt in her days with the Joker; blood would have been a light day.

Harley rambles on, noting Lily's intense level of interest as she speaks. It doesn't seem just like the younger girl is hanging on every word..it seems like she is memorizing everything. She dusts her hands off, reaching for a watering can she has nearby as she answers the question.]

The roots are pretty fragile, ya know? They can break or tear off if ya ain't careful. The problem with that happenin' is that a plant gets its food an' water through its leaves an' its roots. The roots'll dry up if ya don't keep 'em covered an' then the plant ain't gonna get no water. No water an' it'll shrivel up an' die.. Ya get me?

[Harley isn't sure how much the kid is actually taking in, but she sure as hell seems genuinely interested in all of it! She beams and nods at lily's assessment.]

Bingo! An' they use sunlight ta make food when it hits their leaves .. that's called .. photo-synthesis or somethin' like that. Pretty swank, yeah?

[That last question though .. Harley actually pauses and has to think about this. Not because she thinks Lily is a space case! But .. well .. cause it's a good question in her eyes!]

Well .. I can't imagine shoes would be half as popular .. an' walkin' might be a bit difficult .. but who knows!! Maybe somewhere they do!!
