five treasures {police?} [VOICE]

I keep hearing something mentioned about a police force here in this town. Not trying to be rude, but how exactly do you people do your jobs? It seems like it'd be hard to enforce any sort of law in this place, unless you've got all the big guns on your side.

Though speaking of which -- sort of, I'm not that strong -- is there a Dr. Kureha ( Read more... )

It is the role of the police anywhere to keep the peace, to remove criminals from the population and ensure they are punished for their actions, and to keep the general public safe. We use force if we must. It's relatively straight-forward.

I meant more that you really don't have any sort of official backing in this place. It' all gotta be citizen run, and if the rest of the town gets made at you I guess there's probably not a whole lot to handle them trying to... overthrow you, I guess?

I'm just wondering how you manage to handle all of that.

There are those who do not like or trust the police, but they like and trust murderers far less, and they all understand our purpose. We do not claim to run the city - merely make it our business, rather than a mob's, to apprehend criminals. There are lawyers here, as well, who assist us in this, and we all take our duty to the city extremely seriously.

In short, I am not certain that I appreciate your implications.

What implications? I'm just wondering how it's supposed to work, and worried that it might not.

That we will be hated and overthrown. That we cannot help or stop either.

The police have been active for months now, and several of our numbers are officers, detectives, or otherwise on the force back home.

I never said you would. I was asking you how you thought you would handle it if you were.

But it sounds like I'm not the first person that's asked questions about the police, and it sounds like a lot of the people asking have been hostile or thought having you guys around was a bad idea. Sorry if I came off sounding bristly.

In your, and their, defense, the police were generally incompetent when I first arrived here. There is a history to the sentiment, foolish as it is.

Guess you can't really fault them for being unsure, then. Sorry again for the misunderstanding.
