New community from an old friend...

I'm having a pretty bad week. Bodie came up way, way lame on Monday; I brought him down to the vet yesterday, and though we isolated it to his back and right hind, there were no easily observible indications of precisely what was wrong. So I left him down there, and today he's undergoing a nuclear scintigraphy. He was injected with a radioactive isotope this morning and then at some point today will be scanned over his full body with a gamma camera (a process that takes about four hour); areas of bony inflammation show increased uptake of the isotope, which will help diagnose the source(s) of the lameness. The vet practice specializes in this and other "imaging" techniques for lame horses...I use them for all my horses' lameness issues (even though they're a 65-mile drive away - actually I'm incredibly lucky they're so close!!).

I won't know more about what's wrong, or what we can do about it, or when I can pick him up, until later tonight. I've been stressing about it all week, dreading the worst, and I've been kind of unable to focus on or think about anything else - even though I'm trying my damndest not to think about this, either. I've barely even been at the computer. I'd wanted to make a few Pros-related announcements this week, and I owe some emails; hopefully I'll be able to do those as soon as this uncertainty is more resolved.

But I did notice one really interesting thing cross my flist today, and I wanted to pass it on. shayheyred, for whom weight issues have been a lifelong concern - and who has successfully kept off (I think) 60lbs for (I think) about...3 years? 5 years? some long amount of time, anyway - has started a community called fat_chance_fans, which she and the co-mod describe as:
...a community where we'll talk about "weighty matters" - that is, issues of weight management or weight loss, exercise, wellness and the emotional, physical, motivational and time-management challenges that come up along the way.

But that's not all: we want it to be a place where we can share helpful hints, recipes, anecdotes and even the occasional LOL-cat commentary. If you want to rail about how overweight characters are presented in media - go for it! We're there to help each other, commiserate, and find support in whatever weight or exercise-related situation we face...
I adore Shay - I met her in my DS days; even briefly managed to lure her into Pros, and though her stay there was fairly short, she's been a MS fan for decades (for reasons having nothing to do with Pros - she's a theater person!), and my visit to London with her and przed to see A Man for All Seasons (and visit a few Pros locations), in January - OMG, was it 2006?! that long ago?! - was some of the most fun I've ever had (I wrote about it, with pictures, here). She's tough and fierce and funny and wonderful, and I only wish I'd managed to keep her in the Pros fold for longer - so I'd see her more if nothing else! I know our flists overlap a little bit, but I'm not sure how much, and I think this sounds like a great project - just the kind of positive-thinking sort of thing Shay does, in fact! - so I wanted to try to help spread the word a bit.

So if you're interested, check it out - again, it's fat_chance_fans!
