iPods, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and Mountie Porn

Jan 21, 2005 11:29

This is the first time I've flown since I got my iPod (what is the deal with not being able to listen to your iPod during takeoff and landing?  If that's enough to bring a plane down, we're all in deep trouble).  I actually got it for Chanukah, over a month ago, but it took me a while to start figuring out when to use it.  It sat on my desk, all loaded up with songs, for weeks, because I just wasn't in the habit of listening to music.

But I walk everywhere, and this week I had the bright idea of listening while I walk!  (Don't all keel over in amazement at my brilliance, now *g*). And now I'm a total addict, even though before this I rarely listened to music other than the radio.  It's not that I don't have music, or like it; it's just that I've always found it a pain to root through my CDs trying to decide what to listen to (I have a hard time with decisions anyway, and choosing a CD is such a commitment *g*).  And there are lots of albums on which I only like one or two songs.  It's highly, highly unlikely that I'd ever pull out my ancient Frankie Goes to Hollywood "Welcome to the Pleasure Dome" tape, or buy it on CD, or listen to it much even if I didn't - but I just love having Relax pop up in my song shuffle.

So all sorts of songs I'd forgotten about and would never have listened to again (think Flock of Seagulls:  Space Age Love Song, or the Smiths.  Yes, I was in college in the 80s!) if it meant buying or playing an entire album - I can listen to them now, and I don't have to decide what to listen to - I just hit "shuffle" and eventually I'll hear them all!  Though sometimes tracking them down can be a challenge - iTunes certainly is limited (no Zep!  no Pete Townshend!) and took me forever to find an obscure song from Manfred Mann's 1976 album Roaring Silence, but my perserverence did indeed pay off :-)  (Though I never did find Billy Bragg's Tender Comrade - had to buy the CD).

(Speaking of Pete Townshend, I'd never really noticed before how very gay Rough Boys is.  "rough toys, under the sheets," "I want to bite and kiss you" ... it's really not subtle at all, is it?  Loved Zen's multifandom vid to that song from Vividcon...hits all my buttons. *g*)

The one big problem:  I really like to sing to music!  Which is why I tend to listen to it very loud and in the car - so neither I nor anyone else has to hear me *g*.  I have to remember as I walk through the city with my earphones on and iPod playing that no matter how loud it sounds to me, no one else can hear the music, so singing (or what passes for it, coming from me) would be Not Good!

The other problem:  the stupid ear buds that came with it just don't fit me at all - they're always falling out, plus they annoy the hell out of me, and they hurt when I wear them too long.  Time to invest in some others.

Anyway, speaking of Relax: I recently hunted down a bootleg copy of the original banned video.  It's pretty racy, actually, even by today's standards, with bondage and plenty of m/m ... umm... interaction *g*.  So gay, and so porny.  I suppose that's not surprising; this is Frankie Goes to Hollywood, after all!

But the point is, when I was looking for it, I stumbled across some random guy's website and just about choked:

Random Guy says, I'm not gay [yeah, right! *g*], but here's a long list of all the men I'd have a hard time saying no to if they propositioned me.
Who says slash isn't RL? *g* And take careful note of number four:  Paul Gross, about whom he says "If you remember that show Due South, then you'll know who I'm talking about. If he wears the Mountie suit, he can have me any day of the week."

*SNORT!*

And Number One on the list is Wayne Gretzky (take note, dsudis: hocky smut!). Clearly a Canadian fetish here.

(Just to celebrate the Gayness of it all, I'm debuting a new Gay Bodie icon - for some reason he reminded me of Natalie Wood in this screencap ... :-D)

ETA: Fixed the broken link. Gah. Sorry.

ETA Again: It's worth noting that also on this guy's list are Aragorn and Qui-Gon (well, QG is a runner-up. hmmm.

ds, gay, technology
