Turns out the last Friday of the month is "Friday Night Drive-In" on crack_van - you can rec a vid for your fandom. This is a great idea, I think. So last night I was ruing the fact that so few Pros vids are online, but I was happily sifting through the ones that are there - and I discovered one that I somehow had overlooked, by rhianne - called "And So It Goes ( Read more... )

I'm so glad that you've started this conversation - I have been watching and rewatching "And So It Goes", and wanting to share the experience with someone. I only found it recently too, and remember thinking to myself "Billy Joel?" but once I'd heard the song, that was it. The simplicity of the music and lyrics is haunting - almost like a hymn. Solemn. And the chords are hauntingly beautiful. Add in Bodie and Ray? and it's amazing. I agree with you, it makes me feel weepy too. The phrase "sweet sorrow" comes to mind. The lines, "If my silence made you leave then that would be my worst mistake..." followed later by "you can have this heart to break" ::heart scrunches up in pain:: are brilliantly done.
Now I have to race off and read Voice-over :)

Oh, I'm so glad there's someone else as obsessed with this as me - that's exactly what happened; I started watching it and re-watching it and I just wanted to share it. You've hit it right on the head - the simplicity and longing and bittersweetness and haunting beauty of the music and the lyrics (and I'm not normally a Billy Joel fan *at all*) - she makes it work so perfectly.

I simply couldn't believe how many clips there are of Bodie looking so .... pained, so longing. And oh, the words - "you can have this heart to break" keeps circling in my mind. And - "And still I feel I said too much, my silence is my first defense ..." but then "If my silence made you leave then that would be my worst mistake, So I will share this room with you ..."

Oh man, it just makes you ache, doesn't it (I realize that I've basically repeated your comment verbatim here, but I couldn't help myself ( ... )

Just, before I repeat everything *you* wrote, let me say, yes, yes, yes!
Thanks for reminding me to write to the artist - I'd really love to see more of her work :)

I know all about that repeating thing *g*

And yes, I've decided that encouraging people to write to the artists is my new goal. During the archive overhaul process, I heard so many times from authors who used to write in Pros that they never got *any* feedback. I think people tend to get more FB on LJ (though that could just be my bias) - anyway, I figure it's worth reminding people to consider dropping a line, because I think that for many of these authors/artists, even a little bit of feedback might encourage them to write Pros again ...

Let me know what you think of Voice-over, btw!

Okay, hadda watch just one more time ... I don't think I ever realized that there are just so many clips of Bodie looking so ... lost; to see them all in one place is just overwhelming. The scene from Involvement, with Bodie's head on his hands as Ray empties the gun ... Oh, poor Bodie - "And every time I held a rose, It seems I only felt the thorns ...." Sniffle. And you can have my heart to break - and oh, Ray does, doesn't he!

And there are also many long soulful looks between the two of them - a vid like this reminds me that there's a reason this is such a slash-oriented fandom. I simply have to believe - especially with that ending, when Ray turns back to him at the end of Involvement - that eventually Ray sees what a treasure he has in Bodie's heart .... and Bodie gets the rose ...

It's really just beautiful, isn't it ....

(I'm taking you at your word when you said you wanted someone to share the experience with *g*)
