Eve had been in Los Angeles since Monday morning. She wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea of being in the town that should have in it's right mind been swallowed whole a few years ago, but that was beside the point. She had reviewed the contracts that Zeke sent her on the plane ride over and faxed them to his office with a few revisions to be made on her behalf.
Monday night she settled in early planning on getting a head start on arranging for all of her stuff that was still in holding out to Boston. She had spent most the day arguing with the movers on just how long it was going to take to transport it. A few items she threw out, but most of it was still secured and ready to move. She wanted to laugh at how organized she had been back then, even in the wake of practically losing everything from out from under herself.
Tuesday felt like she had gotten a lot accomplished and she even managed to get a hold of Willow Rosenberg to talk to her about the Lehane project she had been working on. It hadn't been a real in depth discussion, but she had managed to ask Willow if she was at the very least interested in taking a look to see if she could recommend someone for the casting.
Faith had been notified that things were falling into place, and Eve just needed to start getting them to actually fall. The meeting was scheduled for a quick lunch, and a chance for Eve to talk to Willow about the actual casting that the Shaman had done. She had the notes from Lindsey, along with all the documents from when she actually hired the Shaman out. It was all she had though, and she was just hoping that Willow was as good as all the rumors were.
Eve got there early and got a table out on the patio letting the hostess know that she was expecting someone shortly. Willow arrived a few minutes after Eve got her water and Eve had a feeling that she was going to at least like this girl. She seemed very quiet, almost modest and given the amount of talk that had been filtering at Wolfram and Hart and now Falcone and Associates in regards to her powers... she had looks that were very deceiving.
Being more than met the eye was something that Eve was more than familiar with, she lived it most every day. From hose that thought they could undermine her, to those that never took her seriously Eve knew very well just how deceptive ones image could be.
"Miss Rosenberg," Eve addressed her with a smile and stood up being polite until Willow took a seat. The file was on the table and Eve couldn't help but notice that Willow's eyes went right to it. Laughing lightly she slid it across the table to her, "I know it seems very cloak and dagger, but it's really not that duplicitous. Actually it's just something that is a bit out of the standard range of Mage's that I'm used to subcontracting for this sort of thing. Plus I think you're familiar with the subject of this matter? Faith Lehane?"
Willow looked up from the files meeting this woman's eyes, "I'm sorry... but who are you again?"
Eve laughed, "I'm sorry, I know we spoke briefly on the phone, I'm Eve Hart. I work for Falcone and Associate, but this is something I started before I was employed by them. It's just happenstance that I happen to have run across your file just as I'm trying to wrap this up."
Willow nodded leafing through the papers again, she wasn't exactly concerned with what she saw. It seemed to be a common slide of hand... or at least of spell when that was concerned. The Magicks used were pretty antiquated too, and she could tell why they would use this instead of something more updated. Older Magicks were harder to detect, since not many people used them anymore. Also a bit trickier to break, which was one thing that Willow was concerned with.
"So I take it Faith wasn't aware of the slight side effect? I mean... it probably isn't so bad for Slaying... the whole not sleeping thing though? Bummer." It wasn't even that Willow cared, because despite saving Sunnydale together in a fashion, Faith still had a few cards left to earn as far as Willow was concerned.
Eve laughed, "You could say it was an unexpected situation that Faith found herself in. I've been working on getting to the bottom of it for a while, and you can figure that you're pretty much the first one I've considered for the task. Actually, you're the only one that I've even heard being able to pull this off... aside from the Shaman that cast it."
Willow almost beamed at the compliment but shook her head, "Oh I'm not sure I can do this. I mean I'll take a look? But I can't even do the whole dual linguistics thing. These passages here? Require two vocal chords going at once, and sure we have that capability? But I'm not really up for testing out just how Dark that streak runs, not anymore."
Eve nodded trying to reassure Willow that she wouldn't dream of asking her to do something she wasn't comfortable with, "No, I know about your history Willow, I only came to you to see if this was something you might be interested. I wanted to keep it within the firms ties, and figured you might at least know someone to point me in the right direction of."
An inward sigh of relief came to Willow, but she also realized that she probably could pull this off with some additional help, and she had just been talking to Ridley about starting anew. This could be just the thing to bring them together without both of them staring at each other wondering what they should do next.
Meeting Eve's eyes again Willow folded the file shut and pulled them close to her chest, "No, I mean I'll do it. Or at least look at it. You know I'll have to be there right? With her to do this, I mean if I do this."
Eve nodded smiling at Willow's determination and the way she was clutching the file as if Eve would take it away at any moment. Picking up her glass of water she took a sip, "Willow, this is running through the firm now. Consider anything you might need for this to be covered. Air travel, hotel, whatever materials you might require? We'll handle it. You just show up and fix it, and that's all you would have to worry about. That dual vocal voice language thing? If you need to call in someone else? Email me their information and I'll see to it that they are there and compensated for their time. Trust me Willow, this is how things get done. It's not like Sunnydale where you wait around for an answer or research until you find the last totem of something. You tell us what you need, and we'll ensure that you have it."
Willow inhaled deeply smiling a bit nervously, realizing just how big this new job of hers was turning out to be. This wasn't even the actual overseeing thing, this was pretty close to what the original job description was. This was Magicks, and this was all expenses paid Magicks. The temptation was there, but Willow knew she'd have to balance it with everything that she had learned this far.
Eve smiled at Willow, "So now that business is done, how about we get something to eat?"
Laughing a bit Willow nodded as the waitress was waived order tucking the folder into her bag and starting to look at the menu that was being passed to her, "Sounds good to me."
