getting ready [Tina's Quarters]

Oct 30, 2009 14:56

On one hand, Nyota couldn't believe that the Haloween party was going forward, after everything that had happened. But as she thought about it a little more, she realized that maybe a little fun, a night where (hopefully) nothing went wrong was exactly what was needed to boost crew morale ( Read more... )

"What, you're not excited?" Tina asked, as she let her friend in. "I'm starting to get into the spirit of the whole thing. Though I think that's mostly because I finally found an excuse to wear the damn evening gown."

Nyota would know exactly which dress Tina was talking about - it was an item that had been much discussed. Tina had purchased the gorgeous gown back when she was still with Roger and went to the occasional fancy party on his arm, and had never worn it. And when she went into space, she took it with her, "just in case."

"After all," she'd said, when first explaining the presence of the bulky item in her closet, "it's going to be five years. Surely something will come up. And I'd hate to want the stupid thing and then not have it."

Nyota shook her head firmly as she entered, though they both knew she was joking. Not only did she hope that certain people would welcome the distraction, but she found a childish glee in the holiday. It wasn't the same as being back home, or even at the Academy and spending the night trying to creep each other out with horror movies and stories. But it was still a close second.

"The dress?" she asked with a grin, throwing her own costume down on the bed and settling the bottle of wine on her desk. She hadn't been able to say anything - her own closet was filled with things she rarely had the chance to wear, but couldn't bear to part with. It had been difficult enough making room for Spock, but he didn't have the same attachment to his clothes as she did. Thank god. "You're going to look exquisite darling."

"I was thinking you could help me do my hair and I could go as an actress from the time of Old Hollywood. What do you think?"

Nyota found two glasses and poured them each some wine - not too much, it was only early after all. Holding one out to Tina, she nodded, tilting her head to consider the possibilities.

"Very classy," she decided, taking a sip of her wine before placing it down. "It's gold right? I have the most gorgeous eyeshadow to go with that."

"Gold and sparkly," Tina said. She took a sip of the wine. "I like this. Nice flavor. Anything I can help you with?"

"It's from Risa," Nyota replied, settling herself on the edge of the bed. "I... may need helping getting into it."

Tina took a look at the outfit Nyota was starting to lay out.

"Oh my. That is amazing." She grinned. "Speaking of scandal... You know when I had my freakout, and then you helped me and I said I was going to try to talk to that Spock?"

At Nyota's knock and "go on" handsign, Tina laughed and continued. "He spent most of the night in my bed, and I made him scream like a girl."

At her statement, Nyota almost spit out her wine, and she had to clap a hand to her mouth so she could swallow. "Please tell me this is exactly how it sounds." she laughed.

"Nyota, I could never lie to you." Tina sighed dramatically. "The nonscandalous version is that we cuddled and I fell asleep, and then later I discovered that he's ticklish."

She sighed again, more sincerely this time. "Of course, that was after McCoy walked in while I was asleep and Spock helped him make some incorrect conclusions."

[ooc: how the hell did I get "knock" instead of "nod" up there?]

"Ah, the elusive Vulcan snuggle." Nyota nodded, with as much seriousness as she could muster. It didn't last too long, and the image of Spock (bearded or not) squealing like a girl because of getting tickled was enough to send her into a fit of laughter--

Which soon died down as she heard the comment that followed. "What?" she questioned, looking up at the blonde. "Leonard just... walked into your room." That had to have looked bad enough, without Spock encouraging him. It seemed a common trait between all McCoys and Spocks to goade one another to frustration. Most of the time it was amusing to watch, sometimes it just pissed her off. "Of course."

Tina frowned. "In hindsight, that does seem pretty weird, doesn't it? I was kind've too busy waking up and trying to do damage control to think about it."

"Anyway," she added, "Spock made it seem like we were being a little closer than we were, and then McCoy read me the riot act on how dangerous he could be - to me or to other people he is not, I quote, 'rubbing all over'."

Tina's crush on her superior officer (which Nyota couldn't judge or make fun of in any way, unfortunately) wasn't exactly a secret. To anyone but McCoy. And having been in her position, she could understand how frustrating it was to question every action, wondering if there was some kind of deeper meaning or if he was really that dense. When it came to Leo, she'd put her money on the latter.

"Men," she groaned. "Honestly, I don't know who is worse in this scenario. Leo for acting like a jackass and making assumptions when he should know better, or Spock for being a... well, a jackass."

"I don't know either," Tina said. "It was just... Well, weird. All around. Um. And then I told McCoy that I thought he was kind of acting like a jealous boyfriend. Which didn't go over well. He did that thing where he just walks away, and I haven't actually seen him since."

She sighed again, and then took a determined sip from her wineglass. "Which isn't that surprising, if he's trying to avoid me as much as I'm trying to avoid him."

"Well it kind of sounds like he is," Nyota agreed, her jaw firming into a look of disapproval. "Walking away from your issues seems to be a common practice on this ship." But she couldn't work out if they had the right idea or not.

Clapping her hands together, she stood up, picking up her glass to finish what was left of her wine. "So you and... It still feels so weird to call him Spock. There's too many of them. You and your Vulcan cuddle buddy. Lets discuss, dissect, what is going on?" She motioned for Tina to sit so she could start on her hair and make up.

Tina sat and tilted her face up obligingly.

"There really are too many. We need to convince at least one of them to use a nickname or something," she said. "As for what's going on... I don't think he's ever actually had a friend before. And I like him. So we're getting to know each other. The cuddling may have been a bit premature, compared to how long it usually takes to get to the physical comfort stage with a new friend, but the way he's so weird about people touching him was really getting to me."

As she listened, she began to look through the make up she had with her, and what Tina already had, blending a few colors and giving careful thought to the dress she was wearing.

"Well I can my Spock Sprocket, but I really don't see him answering to that in public anytime soon so," she began, putting aside a few colors and shifting around to work on her hair. She broke off briefly to pick up her PADD, searching through some images for inspiration before finding the perfect hairstyle. Giving it to Tina so she could approve, she continued. "Vulcans are weird enough about it anyway, with the touch telepathy and sexy hands."
