distress signals [Enterprise Bridge]

As soon as Nyota stepped onto the Bridge, it felt like a weight had been lifted from her chest. She strode over to her console, nodding with a smile as the Ensign before he graciously lifted himself out of the seat and allowed her to sit. As her fingers touched the cool surface, whatever troubles that had been skipping through her mind vanished and she could allow herself to become Lieutenant Uhura.

"Anything?" she asked the departing officer, pressing her earpiece into place. For a communications team, they often operated with one word commands, saving the rest for when they would be needed. He shook his head, shooting an apologetic glance her way as if somehow he could make it a little more interesting for her. She didn't bother to tell him that uninteresting was exactly what she wanted right now. Her nerves were still a little rattled as she keyed in her codes, bringing up the last diagnostics of her system. The last thing she had expected to do while visiting Kirk was cry, and try as she might, any justifications that she was crying out of empathy for what he had been through refused to stick. For a moment her fingers came up to her cheek, remembering the touch of his hand.

The dull beep of her console pulled her from her memories, and she straightened up, perfectly content to lose herself in the white noise in space. What else would she hear all the way out here, stuck in limbo with a dangerous enemy lurking nearby?

Only a few minutes passed before she considered eating her words. There was something-- She automatically skipped through a few frequencies, adjusting the settings a little better so she could clear the static and hear the message a little more clearly. After a moment she had it, a distress signal. A Starfleet distress signal. Was this some kind of joke? Another minute passed as she checked the co-ordinates, wanting to make sure that this was not some kind of trap laid by Nero. She had sent assistance to him once to ensure the safety of Spock, but she couldn't, wouldn't do that again. But the scan came back clean; it was Starfleet, and it was coming from a nearby planet. Who the hell would be all the way out here, on a planet that was barely M-Class by Starfleet records?

"Find me Acting Captain Spock." Nyota ordered the nearest Ensign, fingers already composing a transmission back. Definitely Starfleet if she could do that. "Or whoever he left in charge." Her attention snapped back to the task in hand, and she pinged back a regulation message.

"This is Lieutenant Uhura of the U.S.S Enterprise. What is your name and rank, and what assistance do you require?
