7.3.6 - “It was all supposed to...”

It was all supposed to be easy. Wasn’t it? You were supposed to meet someone and fall in love and be happy. Leah knew that sometimes hard work was required, but there was hard work and then there was hard work.

What happened to the midnight visits and the Superman t-shirt?

Since their holiday to Fiji she’d gone back to work and David had gone back to running and she hadn’t really heard from him. She understood though. He was scared to lose her, and she had no way to assure him that she would stay unharmed. Mostly because she didn’t know herself if those Paladins would ever find her and then find David.

She tried not to be paranoid, constantly looking over her shoulder to see if this was the day. She just go on with her life, all the while pining for those few moments she’d share with David when he returned to her, or called her.

She missed him. She missed him so much, and the only time she was ever happy was when he was with her. Then it all got snatched away in the blink of an eye. She hated it, but she wasn’t going to end it. She couldn’t. She loved him. And she’d rather have the few sparse moments than nothing at all.

How was she ever supposed to forget about him? David had even introduced her to his father, and she knew how big of a step that was. It made her want to return the favour, but she wasn’t sure if that would just spook him more. She’d been thinking about maybe taking him home for Christmas, and spending time with her family. Now she wasn’t so sure.

Some nights she even had the crazy idea of giving up her life just so she could follow him around, but she knew he wouldn’t agree. He would still think she’d be in danger.

In her New York apartment, the one that belonged to him, Leah sat curled up on the sofa as she watched TV. Without even thinking about it she reached for the phone and punched in David’s number. Sometimes it was better not to sit around and wait. Surely he needed the small moments as much as she did?

The call went to voice mail and Leah waited for tone. “Hey, Renaissance Man. I was just sitting here and thinking about you. I hope you’re okay. I love you, David.”
