Yeah, alchemy. It's a science base on the basic law of equivalent trade. If you want to gain something, you have to give up something of equal or greater value. And a thing's value is based quantitatively, along the laws of conservation of mass and energy.
What I can do with it is change the basic arrangement of particles. I can turn a tree into a chair in seconds, for a basic example.
But... yeah. Doing anything to the human body is not only extremely difficult but also qualifies under human transmutation which is not only illegal, but dangerous enough to kill the alchemist.
Well... Josh had to learn every aspect of human anatomy to do that... and even then it takes a LOT of his energy to remake David's heart... so I can guess why most people wouldn't be allowed to do it.
But molecular manipulation is common in your world, even not in this way...?
