Ithaca Fact: Directions may be given in the z axis. Street portray Iowa pretty accurately, but are much more schematic regarding places with hills. In other words, I don't know what direction "up the hill" is until I get there.

After staying in Varna with Martin for a couple of days, I hauled all my possessions onto the bus back into Ithaca proper. After dropping my stuff at her place, I had sandwiches at a restaurant run by a cult with my next host. We both ordered tuna melts.

We met up with some friends from her department (some kind of botany) and did some climbing. I'd taken a course with my dad when I was sixteen, but feigned complete ignorance to look like a fast learner.

I got dropped off at the coop Marvin had clued me in to and got a tour and chatted with the few people who are staying for next year. It's owned by one guy (also the city attorney) who bought the house a couple years ago and is still working out how to get it really going. It was a great house and sounded like a good chance to help it in it's formative years. I arranged to stay in their guest room for the next few nights.

Then I caught up with my host at a nearby bar and we constructed a tower of empty PBR cans.

I mostly wasted the next day, but accidentally found the Short Stop Deli and then crashed at the coop.

The next day I walked wandered around Ithaca for around four hours. The walk from the coop is long, but pretty.

As the town is basically in a forest, I've had a hard time finding a good shot of the wooded hill with it's historic steeples peeking through. Because I think my phone could really do it justice.

I found Neptune, but could not find Pluto (I think it's actually on the museum grounds). I also made it to Cayuga Lake at Stewart Park.

After another night in the coop's guest room, it was Saturday. Travis, Marvin's friend and my tour guide, invited me to go to an annual plant market (the market being annual, not necessarily the plants) at the park I'd discovered the previous day. I thoroughly wasted the rest of the day.

I woke up Sunday and discovered a note on the bulletin board that indicated a "Volleyball alert". I went to the store and, along with grooming supplies, bought the ingredients for salsa and guacamole. Six-year-old Clara showed me up at horseshoes, and I was also fairly disappointing at volleyball, but everyone loved my snacks. And I loved their beer and margaritas. Four-leaf clovers were found by all.

Dan, the mortgage holder, has been very slow to gimme a lease to sign, but at the same time less concerned that I wouldn't fit in than that I would change my mind. This place isn't a done deal yet and I'm still living out of my suitcase, but I think I've basically been accepted. We're supposed to talk tomorrow after I get back from The Museum.
