Just keep on being a borderline creeper XD

And what do I do when I can't write fiction? Write commentary xP Nana stuff ahoy!

One of the biggest reasons why Nana has become my bias in After School is the fact that she's a model. It helps that she's ridiculously pretty but for me, and this is probably gonna sound creepy, I love seeing what she does with her body. You see, Nana has this amazing awareness and understanding of her body that it's just fascinating to look at her lines during photoshoots and to watch her on stage or even when she's just standing around.

Her photoshoots are amazing but there would definitely be too many to link so I'll just talk here about the most recent photoshoot they had for L'Officiel Homme Korea (HQ pics here). Both in the group shot and her pair shot with Jooyeon, her poses look quite simple, no? But that's part of what makes her body so fascinating to study because those poses are definitely *not* simple. My sister even pointed out how unnatural Nana's pose is in that group shot and yet how "comfortable" she seemed, especially when compared to Kaeun and Lizzy in the same shot. Note that Nana's actually twisting her body, resulting in a more interesting and very different body line, especially when compared to Kaeun and Lizzy's lines, which seem exaggerated in their actual simplicity.

My favorite picture, however, is the pair shot with Jooyeon, not just because she's smiling and the off-the-shoulder yumminess, but her lines are just so interesting! Again, it seems like a simple pose, but note the different angles of her feet, how her head is forward to counter the backwards lean of her upper torso. Actually, Nana by herself would have been a fantastic picture. (But without Jooyeon, there wouldn't be that "Oh hi there, we don't mind the interruption~" element XD)

This ability to push her body into very unique poses is also seen in her performances. I absolutely love this shot from their Rip Off stage on Show Champion. Seen from the front, I couldn't really tell why Nana's poses seemed more interesting, but seen from the side, you can see it's because of how she just understands her body and is able to get it there to make those lines.

But before I talk about her performances, I have to point out this fancam. Not only does Nana have an incredible awareness of her body, but she has an incredible awareness of what the audience will see. For example, that link is to a Uee fancam (who's finally learning how to emote, btw! I'm so proud of her XDDD) but at 0:29, Nana completely steals the show. Not only does she appear oh-so-dramatically from the left side of the screen, she turns her head to the audience perfectly timed to the choreo and music before snapping back. So. Perfect. It's such a small move, but it's little things like these that make her so fascinating to watch. (Also note that she leads a little with her hips during that step - not as exaggerated as the runway, but you can definitely tell that's from her modeling experience.)

Anyway, the best way to talk about her body during performances is to contrast her body lines with the other members. Best video for that is the practice video.

00:19
During that "flashback" movement, both Nana and Jungah turn their right sides slightly towards the audience, which creates a different line than say Uee and Jooyeon (Kahi during their live of Dilly Dally in their Playgirlz concert is the perfect example of how awesome that simple tweak can be, seen in the chorus movement, e.g. 1:20 and 2:07 of that clip)
00:25
You can see much better here how Nana leads with her hips for that step (and that usually she's already facing the audience before snapping her head forward)
1:05
No, I'm not pointing this section art for Catwoman!Nana (or cleavage, but now that I mentioned it, you're gonna go look for it, aren't ya~~~~ XD) but rather to contrast E-young's lines with Nana's. I love E-young's extensions and curves, but here it's almost too much (especially 1:10, though it's quite amazing that she gets such a curve actually)
1:52
So in this shot, you can see how Nana and Jooyeon both lift their heads up to emphasize the curve of their backs, which contrasts with the straight lines of their legs. Uee gets that curve sometimes during lives, actually.
2:01
One of the lives has a side shot that shows how Nana's like completely contorting her body to get this pose (can kind of see it in this pic) and it's fascinating because seen from the side, it looks almost awkward because her chest is pushed so far out and yet her head is countering with the opposite angle - but seen from the front, it looks "simple"
2:09
Can we take a moment to laugh at Lizzy's fail? Even Jungah and Nana start laughing and grinning XD (E-young too at 2:20 LOL)
2:34
Sorry, more laughing at Lizzy: I just find it so amusing how she kinda stomps over to her spot XD She does this during the lives too. Compare with Nana, who's all slinky.
2:57
Kinda hard to see, but Jooyeon and Nana pull off this move different ways and it's in the legs. Both are on tiptoe with their left foot, but Jooyeon has her knee facing out, while Nana's is facing forward and slightly inward. This allows Nana to better emphasize her hips, which leads in perfectly to the next hip swivel in the choreo (the better to hypnotize you~). Again, really subtle, but it's actually much easier to see here because of her top. (Btw, props for Jooyeon 'cause she does a simple step to the side so she can be seen behind Raina. She does this in the first chorus too, whereas E-young stays behind Jungah the whole time during the second chorus.)
3:04
I love this moment 'cause Nana, Raina and Jooyeon's feet are nearly in fourth position. So interesting~

But also interesting is watching Nana when she's just standing around. Not only is this cut of the random dance during their appearance on Weekly Idol just hilarious, it offers an opportunity to look at how Nana's body subconsciously settles into photoshoot worthy poses. For example, she settles into that "doll" pose (feet inward, clasping hands to chest, head slightly tilted to the side) several times in just this clip (e.g. 2:43 and 4:17) and also at 6:50, she's like in complete pose mode, what with the way she has her hand on her hip and her legs crossed at the ankle. It's like Nana's body is always ready for a camera.

(Btw, her face at 2:07 and 3:10 is priceless and so cute XDD And she's pretty boss at 9:21 with that hip slide~)

So yeah, a short of short post on why I've been spazzing over Nana lately. Now off to go be somewhat productive xP

[ETA] BTS footage from her shoot with Juvis just uploaded to Youtube! So. Awesome 8D (And of course posted *after* I write this -_- I mean, look at 2:00! It's such a small adjustment but it changes the line in such a great way 8D)

[ETA2] Thanks AfterSchoolDaze for the repost!
