on a brighter note

Nov 14, 2007 21:34

i am in a women's studies class and yesterday we talked about women and religion. there are 3 or 4 girls in that class who just completely dominate discussions and none of them were being very positive about this subject. no one was.

there is a girl who is pregnant and said when she went home over fall break, she went to church and felt so judged by her community.

another girl talked about having a religious stickler for a grandmother and learning to fear any sort of idea of a God through this woman.

Another talked of being shipped away from her Christian school and church to a boarding school after they found out she was not a virgin.

it was all so sad and depressing. but i raised my hand and told all of these women that i was sorry their views of religion were so skewed by people representing the church who were not acting in the name of Christ. I told them Jesus loved them and that He wanted them to build a relationship with Him and Him alone...forget everyone else, forget all of the crappy experiences they were harboring in their hearts; He wants them exactly as they are.

And it felt so good to apologize for hurting them.
