One of the things Aphrodite likes to do best is take a nice, luxurious bubble bath. It's totally bitchin', having her own tub and everything, bath soaps and such she's carefully conserving, trying to stretch out the use of them for as long as possible. She gets some strong, handsome guy to fill it with hot water, it's usually not hard to find a ( Read more... )

I've always been one for a challenge, but I was finding that this was a bit beyond me. When I was seeing the sort of women normally attracted to an informer -cheap serving maids, dancing girls, a few actresses, committed whores, etc- Helena had seemed an almost insurmountable challenge. But compared to an actual goddess the daughter of a senator seemed rather easier to woo. Such was my luck.

All I could really do was hope that she liked a bit of rough enough to lower herself to my level.

Ever hopeful, I had arrived at the island residence of the goddess in question complete with a bouquet. If anyone asked I would have been hard pressed to name any of the flowers, but I was mostly certain they weren't poisonous. Flowers in hand, and fairly confident I would not be giving the lady hives, I knocked on the door.

She's just gotten her hair unpinned when there's a knock at the door, and Aphrodite shakes her head a bit to get it to fall more nicely over her shoulders before going to answer it. It could be any number of people - Gabby nagging her to eat, Perce or Sis or maybe even Luke stopping by to say hi, someone looking for her totally awesome expert advice - but she opens the door on a pleasant surprise.

"Dido!" Aphrodite smiles, a dazzling one that lights her up even more. "Hi, handsome, come on in," she says, stepping aside to let him in and plucking the bouquet from his hands as he passes by. "Oooh, are these for me? They're beautiful."

"Not as beautiful as the lady herself," I replied as I stepped inside. In all honesty, it was not one of Didius Falco's better lines, but I was glad I'd got anything out at all. I was from Rome, I was used to seeing the human body in every state and every stage of nudity, but this scantily clad woman was enough to send me over the edge. In hindsight, it was probably the being scantily clad that did it. Though generally any woman is good, I still preferred them in at least a few wisps of fabric so I might live in hope of my taking the wisps off.

Aphrodite just giggles at the compliment, as always managing to make it charming instead of annoying, her pleased expression managing to express both gratitude and an air of well yeah, of course. She shuts the door behind him, then turns to set the bouquet carefully aside - she'll find water and a vase later - before turning back to Falco.

"So, to what do I owe this total pleasure? Just stopped by to say hi?" she asks, her eyebrows lifting expectantly. She might be hoping for...something, but she's so not gonna even hint at what. She is the expert, after all, and she knows when she needs to let the man make the first move.

"Do I need an excuse to seek out the company of such a lovely lady?" It was better I'd come over with the sole purpose of... Well, she knew what I was there for. After all, she was only Aphrodite, goddess of love. If she didn't know what I was after by now then I had been seriously mislead when it came to my religious beliefs.

"Not really," Aphrodite agrees, smiling a bit mischievously as she crosses over in bare feet to close the distance between them. What else could he be here for, if not to worship?

She steps up close to him, until they're almost touching, but not quite. This close, she can see his eyes better, and she wonders just how weak in the knees he could manage to make her with the right kind of look. She's a goddess, but she's not completely immune to men's charms. Especially not now, when she's been made mortal. "Well, I'm glad you stopped by," she says, tracing one finger lightly down the center of his chest. "I hope you'll stay a while."

Just one finger was enough to tell me that my coming here had not been in vain. Oh, yes, she definitely knew what my less than perfectly pure intentions were. "I won't object if the lady doesn't," I said. The look I gave had worked multiple times before on various women (and unwittingly on a few men as well), but all of them rather less than Olympian. How it would work on an actual goddess was beyond me. At least it was worth a shot.

It's as if his look is answering her thoughts, or is at least well on its way to doing so, and Aphrodite feels a little shiver of want go through her, that familiar heat. It's refreshing, actually, knowing she can still feel that, after not feeling it for so long.

Her finger stills in the center of his chest, and she pauses before shifting her hand so her palm replaces her finger, flat against his chest. "I am totally objection-free right now," she says, before drawing in a slow breath, worrying her lower lip slightly.

"Well if there are none..." It had been so long since I had been with anyone -since the last time I had seen Helena- that for a moment I was almost overwhelmed, especially now that I was faced with so much woman all at once. But it was only for a moment. I wasn't that hopeless.

I was, however, still aware that I was dealing with a deity. With another woman I might have made my move already, but now I hesitated. While a slip up in any other situation might have resulted in a slap, who knew how a goddess would take something she didn't like.

She lifts her other hand to join the first one, takes another step closer, and if she thought he meant to tease, here, she might have started to get irritated. There's teasing and then there's teasing, and Aphrodite has no patience for the non-fun kind. But no, this is more like - like he doesn't want to make a wrong move, and she can appreciate that. She can totally appreciate him understanding who he's dealing with.

But all her fellow gods help her, she just wants him. The warmth, pooling low in her belly, is only growing the longer he looks at her like that.

"Then I should tell you," she says softly, sliding her palms up until she's almost to his shoulders, "I don't really like to be kept waiting."

Well, if the lady was willing and waiting...

Now, I do like to think of myself as something of a good lover. If the occasion was right I could outdo even Catullus's Thousand Kisses and if the receiver of said kisses didn't throw me out. Hopefully that wouldn't happen this time and with no further fuss I finally kissed the goddess before me.

There it is.

Aphrodite returns the kiss gladly, totally not thinking about how long it's been as she focuses instead on not simply turning into former goddess putty in Falco's hands. This isn't a dance she's leading, though, and she so has self-control, so she keeps her hands where they are, stepping into him only a little more.

But oh Tartarus, is it a good kiss. A welcome one. And it leaves her wanting more, so much more.
