So for those of you who don't know, I'm planning on attending a pre-orientation trip called "Project Wildcat," which consists of camping, hiking, etc. I thought it would be a good opportunity to try something new--and, as Willy said, if everyone else is roughing it too, I won't notice the lack of comforts quite so much

Regarding the hike, here's my take:
I just went on a two-day bike trip with the Mormons to Cape Cod. Having not seriously ridden a bike since I got my Learner's Permit, almost 2-1/2 years ago, I was concerned. Over the course of those two days, we rode our bikes approximately 100 miles. There were a lot of damn tough hills to bike up, especially for a guy like me. But NOT ONCE did I get off the bike and walk it up any hills. Not once. Zero times. I wanted to a lot but I didn't. You just gotta keep your eyes on the prize. My thigh's would cramp off when I got off the bike (not while I was actually riding, strangely enough...), my ass hurt more than the prison bitch's (hi-yo!!), and I finally understand what "saddle sores" means...*shudder*...but I finished that trip.
The point is, if you're focused enough and you want it enough, you can do this hike. Just get the ride gear you need and just get'cha head in the game (...aaaaaand look at that! I bounced back!) and I honestly think you'll be fine. You go to the gym more than I do, and hey, college is the time where you start breaking free from your parents' expectations of you. This really could be the start of something new. Remember that one time, when there was me and you... fuck, I got nothing there... Dammit! I was on a roll!
All in all, I think you'd probably regret it if you didn't go. You've got nothing to lose, really. Plus, your friends might be counting on you. (zing!)
