She's crying. Tears streaming down her face as she reaches towards him, hands outstretched. But he doesn't take them. He leaves them hanging, leaves her hanging. He stays strong.
He tells her what he's doing. To her. Leaving her behind. He'd contradicting himself. He doesn't want to leave her, he wants to be with her. Forever. But he can't. So he gives her a copy, hoping she'll be happy. He knows she won't.
She listens to him. She believes him. She shouldn't believe him. She should know that he wants her, that he needs her, that he can't survive without her. Maybe if she fought, he would give in, he would stay with her. But she doesn't fight. She stays silent. She accepts it.
He watches as the copy takes her hand, telling her all the things he should have. He's offering her a life, a proper life. And he should accept that. She is going to be happy. She is going to live properly. But he knows that she won't, that all she wants is him. But he can't give that to her.
She asks him to say it. To actually say the words he has been dying to say for so long. But his resolve is too strong. Somehow he wishes it wasn't. He doesn't tell her. He doesn't tell her the truth. He lies. Just like he always does.
She turns to the other him. To the copy. He can tell her what she wants to hear, what she needs to hear. That is why she needs to stay in this world, because he can't give her that. He doesn't have the strength.
So he watches as the copy gives her what she wants. He should be the one whispering it in her ear, because it is him that feels it. He should be the one to hold her hand, brush his fingers across her skin. He should be the one she kisses and holds tight to her. He should have been, but he wasn't. And so he walked away.
