Spoken word is a great performance art! Yesterday, Robey and I attended a concert called McSweeney's vs They Might Be Giants, held at Stanford's Memorial Auditorium. It was a series of spoken word performances, followed by a small rock concert. I really enjoyed listening to Dave Eggers offer a tale of a pre-pubescent ten year-old and Zadie Smith's love story about a woman with exceptionally disruptive bangs. Sadly, we arrived after Sara Vowell had completed her segment, but I hope to research these writers in order to explore their writing styles and perhaps, from that research, come up with my own unique rhythmic prose.
