I'm Watching, Listening, The Volume's Always The Same...
I'm back to stealing memes, because it's late and basically I cannot be arsed to go to sleep right now. So here we have a lovely writing review of last year, filled with self publicising links and everything. Anyway, it is stolen from the lovely thehubsitter and as always contains a lot of my rambling... (thus it has been placed under a cut). Enjoy! :)
Most proud of: So first of all, this has to be TOATA. If I had to pick a chapter it would be 23 simply because I still feel so proud from the comments I received of how I dealt with all that intense emotion and sadness. As a whole though I am still amazed at how the story grew and developed into something I never really imagined when I wrote that first chapter. :S
My favourite story of this year: Just For Tonight. It has a special place in my heart because it was the first real “plot” I wrote post Children of Earth. It was also a place where I experimented with a different slash and a different writing style, so it kinda sticks out in my memory.
My best story this year: Again, I want to say TOATA here, because I think it is the best thing I have written fanfiction wise not just this year, but ever. Although if I had to choose a one shot it would be The First Beat To The Flatline, again because although character death is a horrible thing - its also one of the best things to write.
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: As thehubsitter pointed out herself, that seems a little harsh. But to be diplomatic I will say any story that revolves around Ownto, because it’s a slash that should be more popular! :P
Most fun story: I don’t really do fun…but I do smut I guess. Either way I had a lot of fun writing The Thing About Men this year, mainly because it seemed to come to me pretty easy at the time, so I’ll say that.
Hardest story to write: Learning to Breathe - from my Ownto series Lying My Way From You. It was a bitch to write. Undead!smut bordering on necrophilia, tensions not only sexual but romantic too…urgh…I’m still not happy with the end result.
"Holy crap, that's *wrong*, even for you" story: I’m not sure if I have any that really are shocking, but one that I am not so proud of is Unheard Utterances of a Teaboy. It had a good pairing and a good slash, but at the time of writing I didn’t really understand what I wanted from the characters and it still strikes me as a bit rushed and gratuitous.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Back to TOATA then… but specifically it’s from about chapter 15 onwards when I really started to pay attention to John Hart as a character. It was when I really fell in love with his complexity, and gave him a back story that at least tried to explain his present day logic. It definitely made me appreciate how completely indefinable he can be sometimes.
Biggest disappointment: Breathe Me. In fairness I wrote it during a very sleepless night at Uni and was completely out of practice. What resulted was a bit of a mess of a fic that I didn’t even bother to advertise on the comms… *sigh*
Biggest surprise: Oh fucking hell…it has to be TOATA. I really was trying to avoid the series, but it seems this category was made for chapter 23. Big shock…or at least it was supposed to be, mainly because I think people were shocked that I had had the balls to actually go through with something that made some people a tiny bit angry… :S
Sexiest story: Ohhhhh, now I have plenty of those to choose from. However I think the title must go to my only threesome smut that is Play Off & Three’s A Crowd. The smut so intense it required two parts… :P
