He’d seen different times, seen the future, the past, and seen all the shit that came in between. He’d travelled planets, scanned solar systems and been in more galactic cells than he cared to remember. But even after all that, this was something that Captain John Hart could never have envisaged. Not anymore anyway.

Lying with Jack in his arms, the other man’s head resting gently on his bare chest, his breath tickling it as he breathed, John had finally found something in this fucked up universe that surprised him. Jack. This Jack. A Jack. No, not just any Jack, his Jack. This was the partner he’d lost from the Time Agency, the lover he’d lost from his bed, the man he’d lost from his heart. There was never anyone to replace him.

Not that John didn’t try; he was by no means celibate, quite the opposite. It wasn’t in his nature, sex had been drilled into him from such an early age that it throbbed constantly through his sub conscious, chiselled into his DNA. But no matter how many times he searched, he couldn’t find the once electric touch of a certain Captain Jack Harkness.

Never in a million years could he have seen this coming. He’d wanted it to, when he found Jack again, when he’d seen him in the bar, felt his lips touch his again, the whir of adrenaline forever at the back of his skull. His mind had started to create its own world again, drift into hopefulness, indulged the fantasies that were secret even from him. He’d seen all that. Then, that night of the roof top, he’d realised that it was all for nothing, that the man who was everything to him had become the one thing they once were repulsed by. But he was still intoxicated, his thoughts weren’t his own, they were mingled with jealousy and self worth. So he’d tried to steal Jack away, and for once John couldn’t be happier that he had failed. Now he had everything back, and for once, it was all enough.

“You better not be getting sentimental in your old age.” John jumped at Jack’s voice feeling the vibration on his chest. The other Captain looked up at him, a small glint in his eyes. “You’re quiet.”

“I thought you were sleeping.”

“And that’s stopped you when?” Jack smirked, pulling himself up so he was shoulder to shoulder with John, head resting against the head board. “You’re not regretting it, are you?”

“Regretting what?”

“Staying…..with me.” Jack gulped his face anxious. “You didn’t…….you didn’t love Jones, did you?”

“Love him?” John laughed, before seeing the honesty in Jack’s features. “That’s what you thought?”

“It would explain why you wanted to leave with him.”

“That was nothing to do with love.”

“Then what was it?”

“Compassion, remorse? I don’t know.” John shook his head, letting his eyes meet with Jack’s. “I owed it to him to stay by him, I was in debt to him.”

“So why aren’t you now?”

“He forgave me, he told me that I owed him nothing. He let me have the life with you that I wanted.”

“And you want that? Honestly?”

“I do.” John reached out, stroking Jack’s cheek softly with one finger. “I’m just frightened.”

“Of what?”

“That I’m not enough.”

“But you are.”

“Jack…” John sighed, looking away, his mind buzzing with thoughts. “I’m not the same man you lost, I’m not sure I can ever be him.”

“Can I ask you a question?”

“What?”

“Do you think I’ve forgotten that?”

“How do you mean?”

“I understand who you are, John. You’re the image of the John I lost, but you’ve lived your life different to him. It’s the reason that I couldn’t accept you for who you were when we met.”

“So how can you now?”

“Because now I don’t love you because you look like him. Now I love you because of who you are, you’re an addition to the man I love, not a replacement.” Jack smiled, leaning forward, letting his lips gently brush against John’s. “I know I’m not your Jack…”

“But you are.”

“I’m not. You might not have seen them yet, but there will be differences, I can guarantee you that. But that’s not the point.”

“Then what is?”

“The point is, even though I know there are going to be conflicts, difficulties, and trouble ahead, I want to face them with you. I want to face the world with you John. Just you and me.” He smiled again, pushing another kiss to John’s lips. “You want that right?”

“Of course I do.”

“Then why are we even doing this?” Jack grinned, leaning in for a longer kiss, letting one of his hands snake round John’s neck, the other stroking at his chest.

“You’re sure?” John’s voice was husky and low as he pulled himself breathlessly from the kiss. “Because I don’t want to-”

“You talk to much, Captain.” Jack laughed, before catching John’s lips in a much more passionate kiss. John felt the contact close off his senses, his brain silenced as he simply let him feel the other man’s caress along his body. That same electric touch he’d been looking for.

Five Years Later……

Saffron skies swirled above a vermillion ocean, crests of waves foaming gently before the water lapped onto the bronzed beach. There was a gentle breeze that blew across the isolated land, moving the tall white trees that stood like columns across the landscape, lining the beach for miles. Heat escaping the land, rising up into the air, spiralling upwards towards the two setting suns that hung loosely in the sky.

Further down the beach, a fallen tree trunk lay strewn across the sand, a stump protruding from the ground where it had been felled. Upon it sat one man, shirt sleeves rolled up around his elbows, a cigarette in his hands. Below him lay another man, a tattered, red military jacket folded up as his pillow, eyes closed blissfully.

“You’re getting ash on me.” John smirked, his eyes still clamped shut. “Watch it will you?”

“Well, you were the one who wanted to lie there.”

“Oh, admit it Jack.” He grinned, allowing himself to open one eye and look up at the other Captain. “You find me lying here incredibly sexy.”

“I do.” Jack paused, taking one last drag of his cigarette before throwing it down and stamping it into the sand. “Although you try and lie provocatively where ever you can.”

“Look, I told you, that Victorian mix up, wasn’t my fault, I mean c’mon, how was I supposed to know?”

“Intelligence?”

“Just because she saw my ankles-”

“She saw a hell of a lot more than that-”

“You’re just jealous.” John smiled, opening his eyes fully so that he could look up at Jack. “You want me all to yourself.”

“And you’re ruining a romantic moment.”

“This is romantic?”

“Have you no imagination? Sunsets, sand, sea….” Jack almost sighed, giving John a quick nudge with his booted foot.

“Anything else beginning with S?”

“Is that all you think about?” The Captain laughed affectionately.

“You love it though, right?”

“I might do. But I love you more.”

“Since when have we done romance?” John laughed, sitting upright so that he could press a gentle kiss to Jack’s lips. “But I guess, for my sins, I love you too.”

The End

So, one last time for Rewind, I shall ask what you thought. I know it’s fluffy, but I let indulged myself since we were at the end! Your comments really do mean a lot, thank you!!! :D
