Don always slept curled up, on his side, in a near-perfect ball form. Though he'd gone to sleep curled up with Riley in his arms, sometime during the night, he'd resumed his usual position, and as the sun broke through the thing, gauzy curtains he had up on the window, it was obvious that this was something more to do with protection and safety and less to do with comfort.
It wasn't overly bright, the curtains helped to filter the sunlight at least, but Riley still woke when the sun washed over her face. Blinking a few times to get her surroundings, everything came back to her when she saw Don lying beside her. Lips curving up into a slow smile, she snuggled deeper under the covers, scooting closer to him and kissing between his shoulder blades softly.
Not used to having anyone in his bed, Don jumped a mile at the sudden press of lips to his back and without pomp or circumstance, fell straight out of bed, his hands feeling around for his cane almost immediately.
Gasping loudly, she sat bolt up right in the bed, already starting to reach down for him. "Shit, Don, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to..." Trailing off, she wrapped one hand around his wrist, tugging lightly so he'd know exactly where she was.
Realizing what had happened, he started to laugh, a deep, warm sound coming from deep in his belly.
"One helluva way to wake up, huh?"
Feeling for the bed, he climbed back up before pulling her close.
"Nah, not at all. Not in the bad way, at least."
Leaning down, he kissed her softly.
Slipping one arm around his waist, she pressed herself tightly to his side, nuzzling her face against his shoulder. "That's good. Because I know I'm wierd, but I prefer my men warm and alive."
