Don/Riley - Evening in

detflackjr (12:05:41 AM): He'd had a long day. Snow storms were always difficult, but being stubborn, he refused to call any of his old cop buddies for help, and now back home in his apartment, he had the cuts and bruises to prove it.
Don had showered, changed into warm pj's and ordered dinner; the only thing missing was the captivating woman he ( Read more... )

Groaning, she nudged him gently in the side. "For your sake I really hope you're kidding."

"Nah, I got 'em." Don smiled, letting her in to his immaculate apartment. Taking off the sweater he'd put on to go down to meet her, Don revealed more bruises along his arms.
He truly had no idea how beat up he was, and to him, he was just a little sore.

The food on the coffee table, it was clear he had been ready to spend the night alone.

Slipping her coat down over her shoulders to hang it up by the door, she gasped softly when she finally saw him. Reaching out to try catching his hand, she lifted it up, inspecting his arm. "Don, are you sure you're alright?"

"I'm good. Why? What's wrong?" He asked, looking completely baffled, rubbing his arms to try and feel something.

"It's not just your face, you're bruised all over." The concern was obvious in her voice as she reached out to run her hand lightly down one bicep. "Does it hurt at all?"

"It's sore, but it's not big deal..." He murmured, really wishing he could see what had her so worried.
"I fell. A lot. All the snow, and ice and stuff." Don added, looking upset with himself for causing her worry.

She knew she should have reacted better. After all, it was just bruising, and it didn't seem to bother him at all. Still, he worried about her outside in weather like this, and she worried about him. "I'm sorry." She murmured, leaning up to kiss him on the cheek. "I wish I'd been there with you instead of stuck at work."

He tried not to visibly bristle at the words, especially since she had nothing but good intentions, but Don couldn't stop the quick and light frown that crossed his face. His voice was gentle when he spoke, but Don had to get across that he was independent--something that he'd done with all his friends after the accident.
His glasses were cold as he leaned in and kissed her cheek.
"I'm okay, I promise. I don't need help gettin' to and from work. Been doin' it for years now."

As soon as she saw the frown cross his face she knew she'd said the wrong thing. "I didn't mean it like that, I just...." Eyebrows knitting together, she slid her hand down his arm to lace their fingers together. "You know what, I'm pretty sure anything I say is just going to make that sound worse, and that wasn't my intention so lets just forget it."

Shivering at that kiss, more at that sudden slight cold when his glasses brushed her skin, she turned her head to return the sentiment, kissing his cheek lightly. "So other than that, how was your day?"

"I'm sorry. I just get...touchy. People wanna treat me like a little kid most times and I can't stand it. You though..I know you wouldn't which is good." He stammered, feeling bad that he'd made her feel bad.

"Hey, don't apologize, alright?" She gave his hand a little squeeze, rubbing her thumb over the back of it. "If I took a second to think before I opened my mouth I probably could have found a better way to say it. I just worry about you, that's all."

"I know. I worry 'bout you too, especially in weather like this." He said, giving her a grin, Don leaning in for a kiss, his glasses bumping her cheek again.

Laughing softly when the glasses hit her cheek again, she bowed her head to nuzzle against the crook of his throat. "I don't suppose you'd be willing to take those off, would you?"

"That would be a negative. I don't like the sound of screamin' girls runnin' outta my house. Makes me look bad in front 'a the neighbors." He said, adding a touch of humor to an otherwise gentle but serious reply.

"Neighbors are too nosy sometimes." She murmured, kissing just above the scrape at his jawline before finally pulling away. She wouldn't push it any further, not right now at least, figuring he just needed a little more time to build up that trust in her.

Moving further into the room, she surveyed the food, snatching up the little container of crab rangoons when she saw them. "Come on. Time to see how much we can eat before it all gets cold."

He lingered behind, even after her comment, having not only lost his bearings (meaning he'd forgotten where he was in the room), but felt like even more of a douche for denying her a seemingly simple request.

Staying silent, he listened to the sounds she was making, trying to decide which direction to go in.
