aheard: how many different ways can I explain that if you want a computer reachable from the network that it needs a unique hostname and IP address.

aheard: Picture a house. It needs electricty, cable, water, gas and sewerage
aheard: They are all utilities and they all come in from the outside world. You have multiple cables for phone, electircty and cable TV. You also have multiple pipes for gas, water and sewerage
aheard: so all those pipes and cables are ports, each of those is for a specific function or service just like email, web, etc for your computer
