To say Thackery was nervous was a complete understatement he was just about ready to pass out as he entered the office. It felt like the first time all over again. The first time he ever decided he was going to adopt. Before he even knew which kid he'd fine to take home and love. But he knew now. He knew just which one he wanted. The worst part about it is Mark was standing right beside him and he couldn't do anything. He didn't want to talk too much to him, because he knew how he got when he opened his mouth to talk to him. So he kept quiet, hands in his pockets, and more or less acted as best he could that Mark and he were no more then casual acquaintances.
They were greeted with a mostly empty smile from the receptionist as she asked their names and he told it to her softly. She turned speaking to a woman who was just outside Thackery's vision and then slid him an access card and told him to enter at a door to the left. He nodded in thanks and left via the door she had asked. Pinning the pass to him once he'd used the magnetic slip to unlock the door. Once inside he smiled as Mrs Green walked over and shook his hand giving him a small hug. It was much more formal.
"Thackery! It's so pleasant to see you again! How is everything?" He smiled back and nodded a little surprised by the hug. Though he didn't mind much.
"Perfect, Perfect really. I couldn't ask for better." She smiled and turned to Mark. "And who's this." Thackery went to open his mouth and stalled for a moment. Thinking of the best way to introduce him but Mark did it for him.
"Sampson, Mark Sampson. I'm the one who told Mr. McKenning about Terrance." It sounded rehearsed, forced. Like he'd been practicing for hours. But Mrs. Green simply smiled.
"Oh! The Mark Sampson. I've heard a lot of good things about you and your practice. That's brilliant. So shall we head into my office? See what I can get done?" Thackery nodded and followed after her brushing against Mark ever so slightly to let him know that they were still in on this together and Mark tried not to smile too much at the action. When they got to the office Mark took a seat by the door and Thackery a seat right in front of her desk.
"Okay Thackery. Well I've been going over some things. Because you adopted Chloe about three yeas ago now we can skip over some of the primarily steps in adopting. You still have the same job correct?" Thackery nodded at the question and she smiled "Perfect. So that takes care of both the working survey and the psych exam. You don't need to refill out the application and because it was only two years ago we can skip over the training classes as well. I assume you more or less remember everything on them anyway." Inward Thackery was bouncing in delight, most of the processes he was skipping took the longest. If only Mark knew just how lucky they'd gotten. "And you know just which child you want as well. He's also a good choice, based off the personality test we took of you a couple of years ago. You're interested in his sister as well right?" Thackery nodded slowly, trying not to seem to excited.
"If you could. I mean, it'd be nice to have the whole family. I'm sure it'll make Terrance feel a bit more at peace if his sister was with him as well." She nodded and dragged out a couple of folders looking everything over.
"I don't think that'd be a problem. We haven't had any other interests in the children. So if you want I can do up the paperwork for her as well?" Thackery nearly screamed in delight but nodded slowly instead.
"If it's not too much trouble." He smiled at her and she nodded now.
"No trouble at all. I'm sure he'd enjoy having his sister as well. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to get all the paperwork done up for you to sign. You said you were taking a trip from Friday into Sunday right?" Thackery nodded slowly. "Okay well if you want we can get him situated and into your house on Tuesday? We can do it Monday but I don't know if you want a little bit of time just in case." Thackery shook his head now. His heart beating furiously in his chest.
"No, No. Monday's fine. I'm coming home Sunday evening so I'll be ready by Monday." She nodded and flipped through a few more things before standing. "Okay then. Well we can get Terrance into your house by Monday. The little one, she's due on the 26th. But you know how babies can be. Do you want to be there?" Thackery nodded with a smile.
"Please. If you don't mind." She shook her head still smiling broadly.
"Don't mind at all. I'll give you the paperwork for her as well. All you'll need to do is have the doctors fill it out sign and then we'll collect it. Does that sound good to you?" He smiled standing to take her hand.
"It sounds perfect. Thank you. Thank you so much Susan." She smiled and nodded opening the door and shutting it behind her. It was only a matter of second from when that door was shut before Thackery's lips were pressed hard against Marks taking the other by surprise. Though once he figured out what was going on he happily accepted the kiss.
"We're really doing this babe." Mark looked as though he were about to cry his voice shaky as he spoke. Thackery nodded in response hugging Mark tightly before placing another flurry of kisses to his lips. Reluctantly pulling away after a few moments so that they didn't get caught in this compromising position. Thackery still needed to play off the single straight man thing.
"We are. We so are Mark. I'm so happy. When we get home, I swear to god though I'm going to be all over you." He teased happily smiling as Mark smiled back with a laugh. Both jumping a bit when the door opened once more as she came back with the paperwork.
"Alright Thackery, if you just want to come back over here we'll get all this paperwork signed and everything will be fine. You know the deal, about a month later we'll be sending you the paper work for your petition. Are you going to use the same as you used with Chloe." Thackery nodded his silent yes, the man he used last time was a very good friend he'd be a fool not to. But she didn't know that.
"Okay so it looks like everything's in order. If you just want to sign sign and initial down at the bottom like last time we'll get all this paperwork out of the way. You've got two there so don't go forgetting." Thackery laughed a bit and signed the paperwork for her. After both were taken care of he handed the paperwork and she smiled. "Alright Thackery. Well everything's in order. You'll be picking Terrance up on Monday I assume." She stood and shook Thackery's hand then moved over to Marks and shook his hand as well. "You guys are a wonderful couple you know. But I promise. I wont tell a soul." Thackery's stomach plummeted. She knew! They'd been so careful about it and he looked down at his feet and happened to notice there sitting on his finger, was the gold band he'd had made for him, and on Marks hand was the match. They'd forgotten to take them off. They'd gotten so used to wearing them that it'd slipped both their minds. Noticing Thackery's panicked look she shook her head.
"You boys don't need to worry. To be honest I think its a noble thing. These kids need homes, parents, it shouldn't matter just who adopts them. So long as they're in good hands. And I know they are. But for safety sake you're name wont ever appear Mr. Sampson." She smiled and opened the door for them shaking the folder in her hands as the left in a sort of wave. "Don't worry, I'll have all of this done by Friday. So all you've gotta do now is the parenting Thackery."
Once out of the building Thackery grabbed Marks hand as they started the trip back to Brooklyn. Resting his head against Mark's shoulders as the descended into the subway to get on the red line and head back home.
"This is one of the happiest days of my life Mark. I'm glad we're sharing this." Mark smiled and turned placing a kiss to Thackery's lips with a sigh.
"Me too Thackery. Me too. In fact I can barely wait to tell Terrance. Or for Monday for that matter." Thackery laughed and gave Marks hand a playful squeeze.
"I'm sure with the weekend we have ahead of us it'll be over before you know it. I love you Mark." Mark smiled and cupped Thackery's cheek bringing him in for a long drawn out kiss before slowly pulling away.
"I love you too babe."
