In honor of Veteran's Day I would like to post a poem my father (A veteran) wrote. And yes I have his permission.
The Men and the Bird
I saw death approaching with it's cold dark eyes
I'd always known that someday everyone dies
Today, this would be my day to die
And on this foreign soil my body will lie
I felt death loom over me with it's cold embrace
No remorse, no sorrow , no feeling, not even a trace
I knew my time must be near
But strangely, I felt no fear
Then suddenly, there was that strange, yet familiar sound
Like a great bird it descended to the ground
Four brave men facing danger and death
So that, today, I would not breathe my last breath
Through the torrent of bullets and bombs they lifted me away
So that I might live to see the light of another day
Four brave men in a bird tried and true
Four brave men whose names I never knew
