“I wish I would have come sooner, Bella. I love it here.”
Bella took Hailey on a walk in the woods behind her house. It was the morning after Hailey had arrived. The bright morning sun peeked in and out of the trees as they walked.
“I’m glad you like it. It’s so wonderful that we are together again.” Bella smiled, as they continued on.
Even though, in Hailey’s mind, she was enjoying the walk she couldn’t help but think of the night before.
“The Cullen’s are an interesting family.” She thought.
“What do you think of the Cullen’s?” Bella interrupted Hailey’s thoughts. It was if Bella could hear what she was thinking.
“They are an interesting family. Very hospitable though. I hope I can meet the rest of the family.”
“I wouldn’t worry about that. I’m sure Alice will think of something to get you to visit the house again.”
Bella laughed at her own comment. Hailey turned to look at her cousin and smiled.
“You really like Edward, don’t you?” Hailey asked.
Redness flushed Bella’s cheeks.
“Yes. It’s funny though. When I first met him, I hated him so much! I guess it was the hatred that brought us close together.”
Hailey nodded her head. “It sometimes happens that way.”
Suddenly Hailey felt like they weren’t alone and she was right.
“Bella!” Someone yelled behind them.
Bella and Hailey both turned around to see who it was. Bella sighed. It was only Alice Cullen.
“Were your ears burning, Alice?” Bella commented as Alice came up to meet them.
“Ha! Yes. I felt like someone was talking about me.” Alice paused with a smile and greeted Hailey. “Hey Hailey!”
Bella knew far too well that Alice did know they were talking about her. Shaking her head she let the two girls chat.
“Hello Alice.”
“What are you two doing?” she asked.
“Just going for a walk. Anything new?”
“No. Everything is as it should be. Would you both like to come up to the house? Hailey hasn’t met everyone yet.”
With it being Saturday and no school, it sounded like a perfect idea to Bella, as long as Jasper was alright. Alice looked back at Bella and nodded her head in response to her thought.
“Sure. That would be great.” Hailey smiled.
“Wonderful! Let’s go!”
“Alice…we aren’t walking all the way to your house.”
“Oh. I know that. My car is down the hill.” Alice pointed towards Bella’s house.
“Smart one, Alice.” Bella said.
They all walked back to Bella’s house and there in front of the house sat a red convertible.
“Alice…” Bella glared. “That is Rose’s car.”
“I know. I’m just boring it. If Edward would just buy me the car he promised we wouldn’t have those problems.” Alice scowled.
“You don’t always get what you want, Alice.”
“Would be nice though.”
Alice led them both to the shiny convertible. The sun was shining on it to make the paint have an almost glow to it. Bella let Hailey sit up front while Bella climbed in the back behind Alice. Bella could tell that Alice was enjoying herself. There was no doubt that Alice was a social butterfly. Hailey looked like she was enjoying herself too. This made Bella happy.
The trip to the Cullen’s took longer then Hailey had remembered. Maybe because when Edward took her to the Swan’s house, he was going rather fast. She could see more of the scenery now and the countryside was beautiful to her. Living in the city had its downsides.
When they reached the Cullen house, Hailey was in awe. It was an old Victorian home. Windows stretched all around the front of the house. It was painted a pale blue with wooden eaves shadowing each of the windows. Alice pulled up and parked in the garage that stood towering next to the house. As you walk up to the house, a set of stairs bring you up to a long porch. A sunroom jutted out from the front of the house to the right. A set of double wide wooden doors stood in front of you. They were carved with intricate designs in them. Alice opened the doors to allow Bella and Hailey in. Carlisle was there to greet them again with a big smile on his face. Esme stood next to him. Alice burst in behind Bella and Hailey.
“I brought Hailey back!” Alice announced to everyone in the room. It seemed like everyone was indeed there at this moment. Edward smiled upon seeing Bella and walked over to where they stood.
“You planned this, didn’t you?” Bella inquired of Edward.
“Pretty much…with Alice’s help of course.” He winked.
The three siblings that Hailey hadn’t met were standing nearby. Emmett was the first to greet Hailey.
“Hey. I’m Emmett. Alice informed me that I had to meet you.” Emmett grinned widely.
Hailey was a still nervous but nodded her head with a smile. One of the other siblings, Rosalie came up behind Emmett and smacked him in the back of the head.
“Don’t intimidate.” Rosalie scowled not only at Emmett but Hailey. This made Hailey even more uncomfortable. The last sibling just stood in the background and didn’t make a move. It looked like he was keeping something inside. Jasper was as talented as Alice and Edward but his talent was that he could interpret what emotions were swirling around a single person or even a group of people. Hailey felt like he was invading her mind. Everyone turned to face Jasper as if they felt agitation in the air.
Alice glared at Jasper, mentally warning him to be nice. He finally walked over to Hailey and smiled.
“Nice to meet you.”
This seemed to relieve everyone including Alice who had a big grin on her face again. She turned around and grabbed Hailey’s hand, dragging her into the living room to sit down.
She sat down on the couch in the middle. Alice and Bella sat on both sides of her. Edward sat on the arm of the sofa, putting his arm around Bella. Emmett, Rosalie and Jasper leaned against the staircase while Carlisle and Esme sat close by the couch. Hailey felt like Rosalie and Jasper despised her but she wasn’t sure.
