Rock My World - Epilogue

Jonghyun was always the first to wake up in the dorm for a reason: he liked spending his early morning laying beside Key. He liked to wake him up with soft kisses on his neck - starting from behind his ear all the way to the back of his neck - and it proved to be Key’s favourite wake up call. He would roll over, still half-asleep, and blindly search for Jonghyun’s lips with his own. Sometimes Jonghyun would tease him with pecks but, eventually, he would give in and they would kiss each other breathless until someone called out to them from outside the bedroom door.

“Hurry up, we’re leaving soon!”

Jonghyun groaned and raised the bed sheets above his head, making Kibum chuckle. His chuckles only intensified when he felt his shirt being lifted up and lips over his side and stomach, tickling him. He squirmed out of Jonghyun’s reach and pushed the covers back down to reveal the now brunette singer’s head, who only smiled and crawled back up to Kibum to kiss him again.

“I love you, ‘Bum,” he said when their lips parted, enjoying the way Kibum’s fingers were making a mess of his newly dyed-brown hair.

“I love your bum too,” Key answered with a cocky smirk and Jonghyun nudged him in the ribs playfully. Kibum reiterated by rolling over the shorter boy to pin him to the mattress despite his struggles and to kiss him until he stilled.

“Guys,” Onew’s voice was heard from the other side of the door, speaking in a berating tone he reserved solely for them and their morning... activities, “we really need to get going.”

SHINee was a success, meaning that the boys had less and less private time, less liberties, less space.

They all had to adapt to this sudden change, but it was a little harder on Jonghyun and Key. They were used to holding hands and kissing in public, which was obviously forbidden now. Sometimes, the secrecy of their relationship excited them, sometimes it saddened them.

Jonghyun also had to mind himself around Kibum in their dorm, because even though the others were okay with it, they didn’t want things to become awkward or to overstay their welcome.

But occasionally it would happen that Jonghyun and Key would forget themselves and end up making out on their dorm’s living room couch. Onew would simply shake his head whenever he caught them. Taemin would cover his eyes and dash out of the room. Minho, well, he once tried poking them with a spatula in the middle of one of their passionate lip locks. That ended rather disastrously, with an angry Kibum chasing the tall boy throughout the dorm, threatening to gouge his eyes out with said spatula, and with an amused Jonghyun who had eventually managed to carefully tug Kibum back into his arms and resume their previous doings elsewhere.

Sometimes, Jonghyun and Key would almost forget themselves in public. They weren’t used to keeping their hands to themselves and it showed, to the fans’ delight. (Yes, that’s you.)

If it wasn’t skinship, then it was them stealing secret glances or Jonghyun blatantly ogling Key. He’d always thought that Kibum on a stage was gorgeous, but the younger boy always seemed to ham it up all that more whenever a camera was involved. He was all sultry eyes and tempting smiles and Jonghyun now held a permanent grudge against all girl groups, because Key never failed to give him awkward situations in his pants whenever he moved his hips to those annoyingly catchy beats. (And don’t get him started on Kibum’s tight pants and what wonders they did to his thighs and ass.)

There were days when Jonghyun would miss Kibum despite living with him and seeing him every single day. Hectic schedules wore them out and only left time for quick kisses or shared showers. (The shower had become their haven of sorts; it was the only place in the dorm that allowed for real intimacy.) Jonghyun missed his old apartment and black leather couch that held so many memories. He missed Roo, missed his free time, missed sleeping in until the afternoon. But Jonghyun knew that being famous came with a price, and if that was it then so be it. He would have been a fool to ask for more because he already had everything he could ever want.

He had Kibum. He had kind members who were also genuine friends and he had albums, stages and lyrics with his name on them.

It was nearing the band’s one year anniversary when Onew came up to Jonghyun one day and handed him a card of some sort. Jonghyun took it, intrigued, only to realize it was the key to a room in a hotel they had been to before. Puzzled, he looked up at Onew who only grinned at him strangely.

“To celebrate in private,” was all he had offered as explanation, albeit a little awkwardly, and Jonghyun engulfed him in a hug when he understood what he meant. He felt Onew pat his back twice.

“Checkout is tomorrow at noon,” he said when Jonghyun released him, squeezing the shorter boy’s shoulder before walking away and leaving the other to stand alone in their kitchen.

Jonghyun bounded to his shared bedroom where Key was half-sitting, half-lying down on his bed, laptop opened beside him. He opened their large closet and searched for jackets, scarves, hats and sunglasses, throwing them on the bed when he found them.

“What are you doing?” Kibum asked curiously, holding up the hat that had landed on his keyboard.

“We’re going out,” Jonghyun said simply, turning to face him as he grabbed a thick jacket and shrugged it on.

“Alone?” Key looked suspicious, eyeing the clothes Jonghyun had thrown on the bed.

“Yeah.”

Jonghyun tried to hold back his smile but failed. Key narrowed his eyes at him.

“Where?”

“You’ll see.”

Jonghyun wrapped himself and Kibum in jackets, scarves, hats and shades and never told the younger boy where they were headed despite his constant questioning as he drove Minho’s borrowed car. However, it became pretty obvious once Jonghyun pulled up to the hotel’s parking lot. He dragged Kibum - who was still curious but much less reluctant by then - through the lobby and made out with him in the elevator on their way up to their room, after checking that there were no cameras. Key was chuckling breathlessly by the time they made it to their room, quick to shed their disguises once Jonghyun had locked the door behind them. Kibum almost ran to the king-sized bed and hopped onto it, stretching his arms and motioning for Jonghyun to come closer. He kicked off his boots and climbed over Key, who threaded a hand in his hair and pulled him down for a slow kiss.

“Rock me, baby,” he whispered onto his lips.

Rock my world.
