Note: Johnny Smith has had two severe concussions, one of which resulted in a 5 year coma. He came back from both with psychic abilities that he has no control over. He touches an object, a person, and he has a flash emotionally draining flash about their possible future or a specific event in their past. It's never general, much of what he could possibly see lies in the dead zone for him. He can't access it so he tends to see a very specific event and rather emotionally. He is always a part of the vision, never an observer, he feels what they feel, becomes them in a distant sense.
When Johnny flashes on your character, they will feel something. Characters in the book have described the flash as a shock, like sticking your finger too close to an electric socket, or a sharp burn, and some who's psyches are questionable just know that Johnny knows. The most common reactions are a deep unsettling feeling and fear, especially when Johnny says what he sees out loud, developing the characteristics of someone familiar, but never quite sounding like himself.
If you want Johnny to flash on something specific with your character let me know. Your character won't ever know exactly what Johnny's... felt is really a more appropriate word for it, but he often brings it up without meaning, too. Also, if there's anything that you never, ever want Johnny to flash on, let me know as well.
Occasionally, a psychic flash will be so powerful and consuming that Johnny will black out. I think it's quite possible that there are certain characters who would make him black out if he had a real decent flash on them so... that would be interesting as well.
