HEEEJASDJDSFJ, i actually did something productive for once.

Decided to give Ichi and Kansou backstory. Like, how they became friends n such. Posting it in chapters.

I always try to remember how he and I became friends. I try, but I always need him to jog my memory.

I was always bullied as a child at the academy. Kids would push me down when we’d walk into the classroom for lessons, and shove me into the sandbox during recess. I never really did have any friends. I was always that one kid in the class that no one partnered up with voluntarily. Our sensei always had to force the other students to work with me.

I was quiet, and taller than anyone else in my class was. They would tease me about how green my hair was, or why I was so different from them. I don’t really know why they thought of me as Different.

Well, it was a normal day for me, a group of kids shoved me into a puddle outside of the academy entrance, and I dropped my favorite stuffed animal. They stepped on it of course. I got into the classroom and took my usual seat near the window. I’d probably go unnoticed for most of the day, if not for my bright, green hair.

Today, everyone was crowded around some new kid. Oh great, someone else to be bullied by.

I listened to our sensei shoo the other kids into their seats as she took attendance. The new kid stood there, eyeing empty seats, hesitantly, before making his way up the row. He took the empty chair next to me.

The new kid, I think his name was Ichijin, or something. I wasn’t really paying attention to any other names but my own during role call. He had bright silver hair, and these weird red marks going down his cheeks from his eyes. He had a nice jacket on too; the collar was very fluffy. It looked soft…like my stuffed puppy that was trampled just before the bell rang.

I sat there with my head in my arms on the desk as I watched our sensei write the day’s lesson up on the chalkboard. I probably would’ve fallen asleep, too. I felt a light tap on light shoulder. I turned my head towards the direction the touch came from. It was the new kid.

“Hey, I think this is yours.” He smiled and pulled my puppy out of his bag. “I saw you drop it earlier. I thought you’d like it back.” He smiled again and continued as I reached out for my puppy. “My name’s Ichijin Oroshi. I just moved here with my parents from Iwa.”

“My name’s Kansou…Kansou Kuukoku.” I just barely whispered. “Thanks for giving me my puppy back.” I hugged the toy. “N-nice to meet you, Ichijin.” I smiled. Our sensei yelled for the class to settle down as she started the lesson.

The class let out at noon for recess. I just wanted to sit in the classroom until it was over, but Sensei said I needed some fresh air.

I held puppy close as I walked out onto the playground. As soon as I did, some kid grabbed puppy from my arms and threw him in the sandbox. I ran after and tripped. Landed face first.

A group of other boys crowded around me as I tried to get up. They shoved me back down into the sand. I grabbed for Puppy, but some other boy took him before I could. So I sat there with my arms pulled tight to my chest, crying and hoping they’d leave me alone soon.

I felt someone run up behind me.

“HEY, LEAVE HIM ALONE.” The voice behind me shouted at the boys.

“Oh well, what happens if we don’t?” Some obnoxious kid rang out.

The kid behind me ran out and punched one of the kids in the group faster than I could turn my head up to look. The group ran, probably to tell Sensei. Oh well, as long as they‘ve gone and left me alone.

“Hey,‘re you okay?” Ichijin sat down next to me in the sand box and held out Puppy. “Second time today you’ve lost him.” I took the stuffed animal from him and brushed off the sand.

“Do those kids always bother you?” He asked gently.

I nodded my head and pulled puppy close to my face. I started to cry again.

“H-hey, don’t cry. They’re gone now. Everything’ll be okay….Kansou, right?” He tried to calm me down. I could feel his arm resting lightly on my back. He was actually hugging me.

I lifted my face up from Puppy’s, now wet from tears, fur and buried my face into his jacket collar. It was as soft as puppy’s fur. “Thank you” I mumbled out timidly.

“No problem. I was bullied a lot, like you are, when I lived in my old village.” He paused. “I hated seeing you be teased like that.” I lifted my face up from his collar. There was a wet spot, like there was on Puppy.

Ichijin had really pretty blue eyes. His hair was dyed red at the tips near his ears, and the lines on his face started at his eyes, and extended to his ears, and his chin. I traced one of the lines with my index finger.

“Everyone in my family has the same tattoo on their face. It’s the Oroshi clan mark.” He stated, smiling at me.

I stopped when I realized what I was doing. “S-sorry.”

Just then, the bell rang. I wished today’s recess was longer, which was a first for me. He grabbed my hand and helped me up from the sand box.

“C’mon, we’d better get to class.” I smiled and ran after him into the classroom.
