so as i was laying on the table, getting a facial yesterday at this swanky downtown salon, it dawned on me that we are all one big family. sounds simple, i know, but my brain decided to get pretty in-depth with it.
picture any get-together. karina is the mom, trying to make sure the boys don't tear the house down. i'd say eric is the dad, sometimes making you laugh and other times yelling at you, pretty standard dad behavior.
Blake is the crazy old war vet grandpa, telling stories, and i am the grandma, always either baking or bickering with grandpa. Mal's the teenage hot cheerleader daughter and derek's the preteen boy. steffan is his best best friend who lives at our house because his parents are never around so we consider him part of the family even if not by blood.
Then there's kooky aunt spage and weird uncle sharkie. And Teddy's the worldly, globe-trotting 20-something oldest sister, who dropped out of college to "see the world" and now just fights for causes and mooches off her parents money to stay abroad all the time. Ben's an uncle who got disowned from the family and only a few members still talk to (they report back to the rest of us at family gatherings, some are still really angry and others pretend not to listen even though they still care.)
Korlin is, duh, the foreign exchange student who lives with us only occasionally. Zarin, Brendo, Rose, people who aren't mainstays but come around and have a good time sometimes--->cousins.
the cool thing that made me think of all this, though, was thinking about introducing you guys to any new friends or boys i acquire in life. i was thinking that if this new york plan goes through and dana or anybody ends up in chicago at spring break, i will squeal at them "you get to meet the family!" and i won't be talking about my mom.
