Nanny was at the house alone last week when a big storm came through. She was pretty sure lightning hit the house. Electronics went crazy all over the place. We had to turn off the power on just about everything to get it working again, but the big TV in he den did not come back on and the DSL modem would not reset. Later I discovered that the timer for the pool filter is no longer timing and the aerator for the residential waste water treatment plant is not aerating. The breakers for the pool house tripped and those breakers work the pool and the RWWTP, the latter of which is giving me a flickering red light that is certainly not a good thing.
Well, nanny was pretty much right. While cutting the grass this weekend I discovered a pine tree on the back three acres that had a big lightning scar down the side. Its pretty awesome. This morning, I found a pair of pine trees that were struck right next to the RWWTP, one of which traveled to the ground and left a couple of holes at the base of the tree. So, it looks like the tree got hit, the jolt traveled through the ground about 10 feet and got into the RWWTP electrical line, which traveled back to the pool house, zaping the control unit for the RWWTP and the timer for the pool pump, traveling from there up the house wires tripping the GFI in the pool house, getting into the main circuit panel and from there traveling to the various electronics. I have surge protectors on all of the quipment so the only thing that got zapped was the satellite receiver and then it was only one small, albeit essential component, and the DSL filter on the phone line.
Pretty crazy, huh? Good think nobody was running around in the yard. I'll take a picture of the trees and post it later.
