And now, I would like to apologize to Pat Buchanan

Mr. Buchanan has written a thought-provoking article about the President's unprovoked assault against "isolationism" in his State of the Union address. The straw man attacks are a pretty weak tactic, and utterly transparent to anyone who can analyze rhetoric. Pat dissects the belligerent sections of the speech, and then pulls aside the curtain to show the President, backed into a corner by bad policy. It's refreshing to hear a conservative voice saying that Bush's foreign policy sucks. For those of you who aren't convinced, a short excerpt:
[W]hat has done more to radicalize Islam than our invasion of Iraq? Who has done more to empower Islamic radicals than Bush with his clamor for elections across a region radicalized by our own policies? It is one thing to believe in ideals, another to be the prisoner of some democratist ideology.

foreign policy, ad hominem, ideology, protectionism, conservative, interventionism
