I have recently come back from a few nights in Heacham near Hunstanton in NW Norfolk, had a great lil break doing lots of walking, bird watching, and reading my book on the beach.
Naturally, though, the first thing I thought about when I came back was "Hmm, so when am I going away again?" So today I booked lots of holiday dates in today at work and I have over a week off in October so NORTHUMBERLAND IS HAPPENING! \o/ The Elizabeth movie location pilgrimage will continue from a base near Bamburgh, with of course another stop off at Durham Cathedral on the way up to Northumbria, and hopefully a visit to Raby Castle either on the way up the country or back down again. I need to get plenty of pennies saved for all the petrol and castle entry fees. I have National Trust membership and can get into English Heritage places free thanks to my trusty Cadw membership so that may help a little.
I am soooo excited. Northumberland has been on my radar a while but both the pandemic and its distance away from my home have made it not very feasible. Hopefully pandemic-wise things will be looking up by October, and I do at least have the time booked to do it all at a leisurely pace.
On that note, my poor Cadw card has had no use for months thanks to the pandemic so whenever Wales opens again, maybe I can squeeze in some trips there as well. So many castles, so little time.
