I know it's apparently Christmas in a week's time... but I'm not feeling festive. And I know Abingdon in Oxford isn't quite Broadway in New York - but I'm just about as excited about going to see the Studio Theatre Club do "A Midsummer Night's Dream" as I was seeing the Rushmeister in "Exit the King" (especially with Briggs as Oberon! Sweeeeet.). I've just started to re-read the play for the first time since I was 12 (eep!) and I think I can say I appreciate it more now I've "grown up". I never liked this play as a child, always preferring "Macbeth" and "Romeo and Juliet" and those more murderous dramas. Heheh. But then I was a rather serious child. XD
I'd actually go so far as to say that I'm more excited about going to see this play than I am about Christmas. There's something about the theatre (especially when one's seeing someone one admires acting live in front of one... that's always a buzz).
I really must go to the theatre more often. (Anyone know if there are any productions of "Richard III" going on any time soon, BTW...? I really want to see that one some time - I've only ever seen the films. [EDIT: Found out that Kevin Spacey's gonna be playing King Dick in a production in London in summer 2011 - awesome! Better go see this one.]) Seeing "Midsummer..." will also go some way to make up for the fact that I can't see Geoffrey Rush do "Diary of a Madman" next year - there's no way I'll be able to afford the trip to NY this time round. :( February is too soon and it's not feasible. Which is more than a pity. It was so amazing to see Geoffy acting live last time in "Exit the King", flying phlegm and all. ;) And it was awesome to see NY and meet all you Rushies, of course. Ah well... there are plenty of Geoffrey movies popping up all over the place at the moment so I shall sate my appetite on those.
