I understand that most police officers do not carry firearms. Would detectives? Namely, would Detective Inspector Lestrade and/or Sargent Donovan carry one to a crime scene?
Also, what department would Anderson technically work for? He's forensics. Here in the States we've got CSI {Crime Scene Investigators}, but is there a different department in the UK?
