I'm allergic to cats so I'm completely biased on my feelings on cats.

And then you can try Bitter Apple which you can get at any pet store and it's supposed to taste bad. They have one especially for cats.

Oh nos! At least they haven't electrocuted themselves, chewing on cables is a scary habit to have.

Speaking from experience, we've always used the Bitter Apple that tiney mentioned when our cats couldn't seem to get the drift. It worked pretty quickly too. Usually they would take one bite of whatever it was on, then jump back and make a face. Sometimes they'd come back and sniff whatever it was, and then wander off. The only thing it didn't seem to work with was my mother's plants, because apparently they absorb the spray rather than have it cling to them.

I third the "Bitter Apple" 'especially for cats' recommendation.

Also, cat's don't like the smell/taste of lemon.So, do you use a water sprayer to help 'teach' your cats? I'd advise putting a few drops (and I mean only a few, don't go spraying your cats with lemon juice xD) into your pump sprayer it helps heaps! You don't even have to 'hit' your cats with the spray, the mist will still let them know you're not happy jan, and the lemon will leave a pleasant aroma in the air - for YOU! xD
