Louden Wainwright III

Eve and I just got back from the show and as I chat with a friend about the presidential debate I skipped for it, I decided I'd write about it.

Lucy Wainwright opened, and though i was unfamiliar with her before the show I have to admit I found her very accessible. She was funny and personable in between songs and led the crowd in an acoustic rendition of "Hungry Heart" by Bruce Springsteen.

Louden was great. He played everything i wanted to hear and a bunch of songs I didn't know, but really enjoyed. I got a copy of his new album signed (I got it for "free" by pledging some money for renewable power) and once I got home I bought another of his albums on itunes.

He did play "Dead Skunk" which Krieger kids might remember. Apparently he doesn't often do that one these days. But this show was all about old stand-bys (his new album is re-releasing a lot of early solo material with a backing band).

If you've seen Knocked Up, he did all the music for that with a Michiganaut named Joe Henry. My favorites from that album are "Grey in LA" and "Daughter." I bought Strange Weirdos (the aforementioned album) on itunes as soon as I got home. Totally worth the buy.

Rufus Wainwright comes through in Rocktober. Eve and I saw him last year and really enjoyed the show - so I think we might see that, too.

Tomorrow I'm very much looking forward to having dinner with Eve, Mom and Dad at Mongolian Barbecue. I think that'll be really nice for my mother, considering all of her allergies. For those that aren't aware, Mongolian BBQ has raw meat, seafood, and vegetables in a buffet. You pick out your mixture, throw on some powders or sauces if you desire, and then take it to the grillers. It's perfect for someone whose food can't touch other food.
