Some Days, People Just Suck

Jun 03, 2011 11:31

I just love those people who are completely incapable of contributing any sort of productive answer to a forum or community discussion (or even to a personal journal entry).

I know people have an opinion.  I know it's a free country, and there's the whole free speech thing, and so on.

But, honestly, there are those who feel the need to give you their opinion, when that opinion has absolutely no relevance to the discussion.

There's a discussion in one forum about Evanescence, the band.  Some people are talking about their old music, some are talking about the split, and some people are talking about what's next.

And, of course, there's always the one moron who has to post:

"I dont lik Evanessen there dumb."

Dear Moron,

Besides learning how to spell, how about you just don't post?  If you see a thread that does not pertain to your interests, why involve yourself at all?

First, do you really think that people care that you don't like Evanescence and that you think they're dumb?  Are you narcissistic enough to believe that if you post something like that, we'll all sit there and go, 'Ooh!  This person thinks they're dumb, so that means we should stop listening to this band!'?

Second, why do you have to judge?  Why do you have to make your opinion known?  Again, yes, free country, free speech, but why do you have to shit on others' preferences just because they're not your own?

Then, you have the judgmental assholes (who I will refer to as JAs) who have to monitor everyone else's posts, and 'correct' them, or try to influence their behavior in some way and completely derail the discussion (or try to).

Someone will start talking about behavior, or women's rights, or a new tax law. Whatever.  Several others will join in to discuss the issue.  They'll tell you what they think of the issue, what's going on in their area regarding the issue, what they've read or seen regarding said issue, and just… discuss.  You'll get a reasonably intelligent discussion.

Then, it happens.  Someone will contribute, and say something like, 'Oh, I saw something similar on Dr. Phil the other day.  They were talking about women who do such-and-such and I think… blah blah blah."  They're contributing to the discussion by stating what they saw, in regard to the topic.

And, the JA will jump in and say shit like, "OMG!! You watch Dr. Phil*????  He's an idiot!  I can't believe you watch him!  Did you know that, back in 1942, he was accused of (insert hellish crime here), and that his fourteenth wife belonged to the KKK?" (*see disclaimer below)

The JA completely ignored the topic at hand, and jumped all over the one contributor because she happens to watch a certain TV show.

I fucking HATE it when people do this.  It's like they troll threads just to pick on that one, tiny little thing that has nothing to do with the discussion.

Dear JA,

If you cannot contribute to the discussion at hand in a productive manner, and stay on topic, then GET THE FUCK OUT.

*My disclaimer:  I used Dr. Phil as a reference because most people know who he is.  I do not watch his show.  I don't know how old he is.  I don't know how many times he's been married.  I know very little about him, and I honestly couldn't give a fuck about him.  Just saying, for anyone who feels the need to either correct my 'facts', or tell me that Dr. Phil is an idiot or a saint.  This was an example (and an extremely idiotic one), nothing more.  If you feel the need to correct me about what Dr. Phil has actually done, or jump on me for mentioning him, then YOU MISSED THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT OF THIS POST, AND YOU'RE ONE OF THE JAs I'M REFERRING TO.

gah, stupid people, rants
