what to read

Since I have been working in the kids' section of Barnes and Noble, I have been actively trying to catch up on some good kids books. Here are some reccomendations:

The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke - If you liked the Harry Potter books for their characters, you will enjoy this fantastical mystery, set in modern Venice. A bunch of missfit kids living in an abandoned movie theater find themselves in a world of trouble...

Hoot by Carl Hiassen - This book has been made into a movie which will be released this spring, I believe. The Newbery Honor book follows a new kid in town as he struggles to hold his own agains bullies and help a runaway in protecting some owls at the same time. Worth reading before you see the movie.

I will post more reccomendations as I continue to read. Right now I have just started "Inkheart" by Cornelia Funke, which is a besselling childrens title and also is being made into a movie that comes out in the near future.
