"What if he's telling me I have to go back?"
I reckon the story is heading right towards Sam’s messages really being from God and Sam going back to the cage to do…whatever. Nothing that makes sense comes to mind.
However, I still think that whole storyline doesn’t make sense anyway.
So Sam has visions and jumps right to the conclusion that they are messages from God. The one time Sam had visions before, he was canonically still praying to God regularly. And yet the visions were quite definitely from the other team. So WHY does he this time assume they are from God?? Makes NO sense whatsoever to me.
The other thing is that he’s assuming makes even less sense to me. There was nothing in the visions (yet) that includes a suggestion that SAM should go to the cage. WHY and HOW should Sam even do that? (I mean, I’m pretty sure they’re gonna come up with some ridiculous solution à la ReaperTaxi. *shudders*)
BUT: they have a direct connection to Hell: Crowley. The bloody KING of Hell. And Crowley hates Lucifer canonically with a passion. So even if he’s not all that fond of either Winchester right now, it would make an awful lot more sense to get in touch with Crowley and enlist his help.
Also there’s the other person they KNOW has been to the cage: CASTIEL. AND they’re still friends with him. AND he’s none too fond of Lucifer, or the Darkness, while at the same time wanting to help the Winchesters.
Ah well, we’ll see how it all plays out.
Given the Show’s history most likely Sam will go back and (seeing as Lucifer was the first one to have THE MARK) this time SAM will take the Mark to save all of humanity.
