Something Cute from New Year's Eve
So I was out getting a small ham, the correct brown -n- serves, and the Boston cream pie that happened to leap into my arms at the nearby Safeway that I don't usually go to because they're too expensive and don't generally give out coupons any more...as I was waiting for my postage stamps at the customer service desk, I saw something that just struck me as cute and sweet: this nicely dressed young man in a tweed jacket bustled up with an armload of cut daffodils and asked for a bottle of the sparkling limeade that was on special. While he waited, he pulled a little black velvet box out of his breast pocket to check on the diamond engagement ring in it. :-) And he was muttering a phrase over and over again - practicing his proposal, evidently. The clerk asked him about it - I couldn't hear it all - and he smiled and said neither he nor his girlfriend were drinkers, so he was getting the limeade for New Year's. Some girl hopefully got the New Year's surprise of her life that she'll always remember!
